Instant Messenger Rage

So AOL changed their instant messanger. I haven’t used it in over a year because I grew disgusted with it then. Well, I really use AIM to stay connected to so many people, so I decided to give it another go. Of course I was due for another update and I’m still not impressed. I consider myself to be somewhat computer-savvy, so how can I not figure out a simple AIM program? Where did my option go for setting MY Idle preferences so I can have certain away messages turn on automatically? Why did they have to make the new emoticons so cheesy and cheap-feeling? What happened to AIM classic? And since WHEN do I want AOL explorer??? I don’t like that being compulsory to using/downloading AIM. Grr!

I’m without options since the majority of my friends are on AIM exclusively….

Ok, so now on to MSN messenger, which I use for all my friends who live internationally (or who I went to school with in France). Well, its also been a year since I’ve logged on… and what do you know, my contact (buddy) list is gone… As if I have that information stored somewhere.

Ok, so I guess I can’t blame MSN… but I do blame AOL.

yeah I use AIM to stay connected to everyone…and that sucks about how you need to download AOL explorer and stuff! Hope things work out!

i am so sorry you lost all your msn screennames! that sucks beyond words. i hate aim too. gaim is a free instant messaging client that works with aim (and others, i believe) that is much, much simpler than aim but has all the useful stuff too. plus you can set up aliases for people’s screennames. say you know someone named teddyrama9879857392873. you could set up an aliasfor them so that their name shows up on the screen as ted instead (or whatever). personally, i hate all the excess crap that comes with aim. and those new smilies are atrocious. come hang out on the message boards! =)

You could try trillian:- http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ It’s basically a chat program that combines yahoo messenger, AIM, MSN and ICQ so you don’t need different chat programs installed. The free version always worked for me.
