First Retirement Plans

JT and I are planning a vegetable garden next to the barn. Twenty by twenty with three raised beds.

I haven’t had a veggie garden for decades. I spend the best summers of my youth with my father in his truck garden behind our house. Planning a veggie garden is bringing back the best memories ever.

Warm earth, the feel of dirt in my hands, the smell of fresh veggies when collecting for dinner. The love of my father. Best memories I have and now I am reliving them.

Retirement may not be as bad as thought.

Four kinds of tomatoes, peppers, peas, sugar peas, string beans, red beets, cucumbers, scallions, ornamental gourds and herbs are the first year plan. I planted the seeds in my little greenhouse planter for the tomatoes and peppers. All else will go directly into the ground when last frost is past.

JT has to build the raised beds and walkways between. Also need a fence to keep out the critters.

Already talked to the seven year old neighbor to pay her to water the garden when we are at the cottage. She seemed very excited and is going to ask her parents.

The future is looking good.

sounds like a great idea to me….

Sounds wonderful. Eventually, you might put in a drip system. Don’t forget onions and greens. Early and late radishes, and whatever seeds fall in your lap. 🙂

I’m warning you in advance… once you retire time will pass faster than at any time of your life! You will also wonder when you had time to work as your day fills up with “more important things to do”!!

I think planning is essential to retirement, especially at first. I agree with brickpaver that things come up and you will be busy. But it’ll be a good kind of busy. I know I’m looking forward to my retirement (in 6 years).
