Beginning of the End

I am sixty-two and was hoping for a smooth three more years in my job. That would take me to a twenty-five year second career. I have always gotten raises and good reviews. I sell into a depressed market, even before the big recession. Never made my annual goal but was not penalized. In fact, I have always gotten an annual bonus.

In November I was told I was not performing to goal and at my next review (March) I would be moved from a level three down to a level two. No bonus. And if I don’t make my monthly goal going forward, I would be put on formal notice. If I continue to not meet my monthly goal I will be terminated… No severance.

I received a call from my manager today to tell me that, due to my lowered level to two, I will not be allowed to go to the annual sales conference in February.

I have a strong feeling they will be terminating me sooner than later.

This sucks!

This is horrible! After all that time… I’d be scared then pissed. I say show them up and stick it to them, or at least try!

I can totally relate…I wanted my current job to be the last one I ever had…but it looks like I’m about to get the axe as well. Employers are brutal these days, they think everyone is easily replaceable. Good luck!

I wish things would turn around for you, but things are so bad everywhere, I fear it would be a futile wish. I think many of us are scared about losing our jobs. Do you have plans to do something else or will you retire then? Scary to think about these days, what with health care so expensive, too.

I was so sad to read this….hope you are okay.

You’ve been with this company for 22 years and they treat you like this? What are you selling? I was given a severance package to leave after 23 years so at least I left with a pension and a package. It seems no one wants to hold on to their older employees.

It will be to their loss! I believe that the powers that be always have some family member they want to bring in at a lower rate, thinking the family member will have the contacts and the wisdom to do the job. They usually find out after a year or two that the person does not have a real handle on the job. Hugs!!
