100 Year Old Wonder
Many of you may have read earlier entries about my mother.
She is a funny, tough old bird.
She celebrated her 100 birthday on February 11, 2011.
The day before she turned 100 she told me she thought it would be ‘unique’ if she died on her birthday.
The next morning when my sister arrived to giver her breakfast she was already up and sitting in her chair.
The first words out of her mouth were “Well, I woke up!”
Still going strong!
It’s something about that generation and their fighting spirit, isn’t it? We have a neighbour who is 96 (although on her birthday each February she prefers to ’round up’ and so is “nearly 97, you know!”) and I distinctly remember her debating about 15 years ago as to whether she should get a new cooker or not “since I might not be around for long”. Well, she’s since outlived the “new” cooker!

I’ve got one of those too, but she’s a youngster in comparison at 89.

A hundredth birthday is quite an event.

Wow, that is such a major achievement! Good for her for looking at life and death in a humorous way!
