It was quite the week at the office. Earlier in the week, one of my co-worker said there was a bat on the floor near the front reception area. I didn’t believe him. I said "If there is a bat I’m not going to look." Then I changed my mind. And I went to look. The bat has a fuzzy brown tummy and black wings that were down. The receptionist took a few pics of the little creature.
I went to take a few pics as wel,l with my cell phone. As I inched close,r I commented about what would I do, if that bat moved right then and flew into my face. I went back to my office. Some of the other staff decided to dispose of the bat. As soon as the dustpan was again the bats body the bat started to flap its wings. I guess it was screaming as well. They called the humane society and put the bat in a box. I don’t think the humane society showed up though. Kind of funny how I heard everyone ran and screamed when that bat began to move. I feel bad if it died an unecessary death though.
Then On Friday it was a warm day. The snow was melting. I was in the office. I noticed my shoes were wet and thought it was odd as I had not been outside and I wipe my feet off, when I come into the building. Finally I loooked at the door and saw a large puddle of water. I thought maybe something I had in the cabinet, was leaking. I looked again, but the source of the leak seemed to be ground level.
I went to grab the custodians mop and bucket. I went to tell the receptionist. She didn’t seem too concerned. And seemed to think I meant the leak was coming from the ceiling. "Ummmmm nope a pan on the floor won’t work." She gave me a phone number for someone to call. She didn’t seem to know how to handle it though. I left the building for a while and gave my co-worker the phone number.
He said he called but there was just a recorded message. I had been mopping for over 2 hours at this point. I told the manager and she also seemed to think that I meant it was a ceiling leak. No floor level means on the ground not the ceiling. Nothing was being done so I said "This is an emergency so you really should look at it." Finally she comes in and realizes how bad it is. She calls someone. Hours go by and still nobody shows up.
I kept mopping and wringing the mop even though I was physically getting tired. My one co-worker helped me while I was gone. The others didn’t really seem to care though. For my one co-worker I think it was because it wasn’t on the other side of the office. The other one was out for most of the day. And the one co-worker who wasn’t helping, starts telling me about some purchase order I can pick up. I said "well I have been dealing with a puddle of three inches of water that is ongoing." Plus I have and had pms so I was beyond annoyed.
Finally this guy comes to asssess things. He brought no tools or supplies with him. And kept asking me where things where. I tried to help but not as though I work with tool,s on a regular basis in my office. There was an area close to my desk at the back that I thought was some kind of pillar. Apparently there is a roof drain there. So he rips off that part of the wall and the insulation, ick. After that there was a nasty smell.
He goes outside to chip snow off and then onto the roof to get more off. It seemed to help a bit. He was in a bad mood and said "shit" and was frowning. I wasn’t too happy either, ha. At least I had somehwat of a mopping break then. He finally concluded he would have to get a plumber in. This happened on a Friday. He said he may not get someone in till that night or Saturday morning. He suggested we put a bag under the pipe. The way he said it initially I thought he was going to do it though.
And the pipe is attatched to the wall. It turned out to be a leak in a roof/water pipe. So a bag couldn’t just go under there easily. And once the guy left the dripping water intensified. Yeah thanks for your help guy. At least he was there though. I moved my little filing cabinet and we made sure everything electronic was unplugged. I may go back to a flooded office tomorrow, who knows. I spend the rest of the time mopping and my muscles weren’t too happy. As the night went on, the pain from the mopping became bad. i was in agony. I was mopping and wringing for at least five hours But too sleepy to take anything for the pain. So I hope tomorrow isn’t too much of an adventure when I go back to work. In conclusion, people should listen to me the first time I tell them something is wrong.
On Friday someone who works in my office noticed I have lost weight. She said "How much did you lose 30 lbs?" I wasn’t that big before so I found that kind of funny. I made a few recipes on friday and Saturday. Friday night I watched Duck Dynasty and made Potato, onion, ham and cheddar soup. I added too much flour so it is more like a gumbo a very chunky soup. It is still very tasty though.
I went to this wholesale place by my house, a few days ago. They just had 10 pound bags (and up) for potatoes. I went to another place on Thursday. They just had the 10 lb bags of potatoes. It was quite the effort to get the tiny bags of potatoes. On Saturday I made french toast. Well attempted to make it. I had the egg beater (they were on sale.) But they were maple french toast ones. The bread that I bought was inexpensive but also rather flimsy.
I did the first batch on a pizza style pan. I did put them on foil and used cooking spray. Theystill stuck and I had to throw them out. I made star of David and bear french toast from cookie cutters. The cutters didn’t go through the bread easily though. I decided to cook the rest in a pan. I had to keep an eye on it and keep flipping it. The toast was still too chewy for my liking on the inside. It turned out ok though.
Then in the afternoon I mad a bowtie pasta salad. I added orange pepper, onions, mushrooms, ham, tomatoes and cheddar cheese. I still have ham tomato and and pepper left over. I think I will made an egg/potato Frittata tonight. Now that I achieved my goal of losing the weight I am moving onto other things. I want to sharpen up how I think and focus on things. I have been playing luminosity (brain training games.) And I love it but to have it ongoing I need to have a credit card or pay-pal.
I also have a library card now. Now was a pain in the ass to get it. The lady who renewed it for me was either new or hadn’t done that procedure many times. I’m not putting her down for that. But she made some mistakes and in addition said she needed my drivers license as proof of identity. She already had a bill from me as proof of address. I said I didn’t feel comfortable with them having my drivers license on record. I mean it is the library not dmv. So I asked another librarian what do you do for those who don’t have a license? She said they could use proof of address so I asked her to do that. Even though I showed that to them initially…
Then I paid for my library fine (previous) which was $6.40. I get home and check to see the details of my account online. The fine still showed. I knew they wouldn’t believe me if I just phoned the library. So
I go downtown and the librarian (one who was there when I renewed the card) didn’t recognize me. I said "You were there." She said so you paid your fine? (which was what I had just said.) I repeated again I paid the librarian for the fine, gave her $10 she gave me change. I hate to be ole eagle eye but it seems when I am not vigilant things like that happen. So I go hope, check the library account, and all was ok.
On the day I was attempting to get potatoes for the soup, I was getting some bananas. It is so cold here, that there is tons of static in the air. I couldn’t even get the plastic bag open. There was a lady on a shelf putting stock on shelves. Then I hear. You aren’t allowed in the store." There was no-one in my vicinity so I look at her. Then she says to me "sorry not you." I hear her talking to another employee. The other lady said "he is buying bread." he was heading towards the discount bread. And at that point they said no more. I wondered what he did. It was -40 farenheit here this morning, brrr!
Loved it. Very well written! 🙂

That is a crazy work week! I love Duck Dynasty, and the soup you made sounds really good. Do you use a recipe or throw things together?

RYN: I agree, I would be so mad at Jesse if he treated me that way. Although I’m sure I’d be equally bad at football :o) Thanks! I love soup, but the soup mixes they sell at the store are all really high in sodium.
