Small town blues

I got drunk again last night. I shouldn’t say "again" because that implies I get drunk frequently. The last time I got drunk was on New Year’s Eve and that didn’t go over so well. I probably wouldn’t have drank at all if a friend who I rarely get to see didn’t come to visit. He had a couple days off from work and we thought, "What better way to pass the time then by going to the bar and getting smashed?" It was actually quite pathetic, to tell the truth. I live in a small town so even on a Friday, the bar is only somewhat packed and lively, certainly nothing compared to any bar in a city. Eric and I and five other people were the only patrons. I saw a man sitting at the bar by himself and it just made me feel very sad. After a while, we proceeded to go back to my boyfriend’s house as that is were Eric was staying. I was drunk enough to put aside my insecurity and initiate sex from Boyfriend. He said he was too tired so, stung, I picked a drunken fight and went home. My drunk personality sucks.

My mom is allowing me to use her Nook so I bought "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. I’m still not quite used to reading on a tablet. I know physical media is becoming a thing of the past which makes me uneasy. I’ve never been able to accept change very well. I’m an old, stubborn woman trapped inside the body of young woman. My hip even aches when it’s cold out! (Of course, I attribute that to getting hit by a van when I was 12.) I’ve always loved the feeling of buying a new book. I love the smell, I love the feel of flipping through the pages, I love the trip to the bookstore itself. Buying a new book is one of my favorite things. I don’t really want to give all that up. Alas, the convenience level of buying them on a Nook or Kindle is pretty unequaled.

I’m going to settle into my recliner, eat some Andy Capp’s Hot Fries and watch The Little Mermaid.
