sooooooozer

Bribery is a large parent of parenting, sadly.  Or, bartering, or "offering choices" or making a deal. Whatever you want to call it, it is all some sort of bribery I think.

Today, Cooper threw his soothers out. Like, into the garbage.  He uses them only at night time, and during nap.  It wasn’t really bothering me, I had no timeline in mind (please note that Brandon really defers all minor parenting decisions to me, I think without thinking about it really– and probably because I am with the kids the most).  I wasn’t living by any "rules" about the soother. However, I noticed Cooper’s super nice teeth started having a it of a slant in the front two, SO slight but it’s there.. Soo I thought it’s time to nip this in the bud.

When Cooper went to the sitter (Margie- from age 15months- 22 months and MaryLou just for 3 months in May 2010) he never used a soother for naps, so I KNEW he could do it.

When offered the "deal" (bribery!) that he could get whatever Cars car he wanted at the store, he was very ready to toss the old soothers.  I kept repeating to him that he couldn’t get them back, that he couldn’t get new soothers that this was IT.. And he was like "yeah, I get it".

So off we went, he got an awesome (because his mommy picked it out) mac-truck-car-carrier thingie. He loves it.  Soothers (also known as sooze-s) went into the garbage.

Nap time went fine.  Bed time, fine.  He hasn’t asked for it.. He knows they are gone.  Strangely easy.

I don’t know who told him he could grow up, it certainly wasn’t me.  He is almost three, I can hardly believe it.  Soon he will be 18 and going to college, getting married, having babies. It’s heart wrenching to think that time goes SO fast.  *sigh* I am so proud to be his mama though, so proud.

I missed yesterday, this I know. However, I think I am doing DAMN good.
