My sanity

…is the chance to write in my space whatever I like and if it rambles well that’s how it goes.

EASTER Saturday well the day before an extravaganza of chocolate although to be fair I am not likely to have any. Some will go to church and sing their hymns and their prayers, others will celebrate their day of whatever and some will just carry on. Me – well I will probably drop into the latter company but that’s ok. Yes the time way is good but as for the various reasons well I am not overly fussed. The arguments over what the weekend is for….who decides it and so on really just doesn’t worry me any more. The christian will argue it means this and should be held now….although on of the first things they did was just rename existing ceremonies wherever the gospels were being spread (aeons before white america even was)…the pagan/wiccans will probably say it was due to the shortest day or the start of spring or whatever – a celebration of the earth. Me its another day spent with family.

As for the family well d1 is doing what she does with gd1,2 and 3. D2 has suffered from something really not nice and has gotten another bout of tonsillitis but what is worse is she barely gets up…she’s not been this bad before.her hubby and gd4 are doing well. Me and the nun had gd4 all day yesterday and spent some time at Attingham Park. a busy old day at the venue with kids galore enjoying being out and about looking for the birds nests with eggs in. By birds I mean representations in human size of real birds such as the blackbird with boards next to them explaining a little about the birds and their nests etc also how they fit into folk lore such as nursery rhymes (4 and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie etc). Yes I know there is an argument that the blackbirds are actually squab crows (they were around for real in the various eeries on site) but let’s get kids interested in their history and the world around them before killing their enthusiasm with arguments about this and that.

Dog1 went with us. As a golden retriever the love of rolling in the mud and waddling in the water led to her becoming a brown retriever lol

End of the day on Friday well it has to be fish…being Brit then this has to be with chips lol If you’ve not had a food for some time it is all the sweeter and oh yes it was a beauty. Unfortunately for me that meant falling asleep and apart from a couple of times waking that was it until this morning.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring apart from a lot of cooking (all grandkids and 2 of the 3 kids plus 1 husband me and the nun) and some picky eaters. About the only veg they all have in common is carrot lol. Potatoes I am told don’t count – another picky argument – they do count as veg and foodstuff to me lol

Oh yes and some places have taken to selling ‘wonky veg’. I have a problem with that designation. Veg is veg is veg. The fact that it may not fit with suppliers demands for homogenised identical shape ad weight veg but that doesn’t make it wonky. Goodnss I am old enough to remember that all veg cam un-prepacked, still dirty and help yourself. Washed and peeled it was the sweetest taste filled stuff going. Now most of that stuff is less than tasty but adequate while the so-called wonky stuff is fuller and tastier and gorgeous. Now just down to chef me to get the best from it.

May I ask a silly question? When you say chips, do you mean potato chips or French fries? I’ve always wondered. Thanks!

@wildrose_2 the only silly question is the unasked one 🙂 and this is not an easy one so forgive my ‘dictionary’ type approach

Potato chips (American)=crisps(UK)

French fries tend to be quite thin fried potato sticks maybe 2-3/10th of an inch (2-4mm maybe slightly larger)

Chips tend to be thicker and ‘chunkier’ often half an inch (10-14mm) across and generally the length of the potato. I would post pictures but haven’t any to hand.

Hand cut ones tend to be even chunkier

Ah the delights of the differences in English – not least with a little French thrown in lol
