Just writing because I can

Yesterday I deleted Prosebox…for no other reason than I had forgotten I had it and there was precious little there. Regretfully that diary is also going the way of the old OD but hopefully people will continue to write. I am sure I have blogspot or some other set of diary type place but this is where for some reason I was most comfortable ad getting it back is like finding that old comfy shirt or shoes and just sliding right in. Yes there are things I may like to see like a free diary and live with the ads – I understand why not so won’t push it – the ability to change the @ or the diary name but you know what as a non-coder (programmer if you are as old as me) it does what I want just fine. I need to decide how to pay when the free return lapses and then the delight of boring people with photos of holidays and other stuff from the years that have been loss. Talking of loss do people still remember the diary hack of yore? I lost a chunk and more of my words that I will never get back – just hope we don’t have that again. [Muses: I must look at how to download the diary to stop from losing it again.]

Today is a quiet but painful day…better than a depressed rundown painful day by a long way. The sun has come out but there is a promise of rain. [worked out which country I am from yet?]

I mentioned series 16 of The Bachelor (Ben and Courtney) and I watched the last couple of parts today. OK I am behind but work does that to you and to be fair I am not really a fan but this one caught my eye due to the continuing choice of someone how managed to pi*s off the rest of the women in the house…right to the one that got chosen. They seemed happy but by goodness did she get some, not undeserved, bitch comments from the others. Not all some tried the more diplomatic approach. The more that she was put down the more firm it was she was the chosen one. And then they saw the show in its weekly format. What the women were saying was now out there as being evidenced and caused the expected distress and trauma to both of them.

Then the expected tabloid explosion. Here we didn’t get to see the press in all, from what they were saying, their vehement abusive nature or very much about it but from the way it was presented it was like bullying of the worst nature. Not just because of the constant dragging down of the woman chosen but because of the permanent perpetual nature of it day by day by day. Name calling, personal comments and so on. What is it that ‘celebrity’ (2 people seemingly trying to make a future together even though it was in front of a nation) means the papers have the right to constantly attack individuals. It is bad enough when people within your own circle do the backstabbing (front stabbing even) and constantly grind you down but where media attacks its like a set of wolves rounding on  wounded pray. It is grossly unfair and unreasonable and to be honest not even news.

Who is to blame? Well the nations and people who take the words of paper or social media or radio as being the main driver of thought. People that take those words, make them into their own and reiterate the garbage they say. Selecting  target, often one that cannot fight back, and attack attack attack. They select words, bodily features, morals in fact anything that would support the negative. No take on the positive is given.

The only way to stop this unmitigated poison is to not buy into it, not buy it and actually formulate ones own opinion. Remember there but for the grace of God (or god) go we. Whether that be local or national matters not but really we must do better at the way we treat our fellow man.

In any case is being on a ‘reality’ show really a way of creating celebrity?

Me – I feel sorry for the way Courtney was treated, the way it affected the fledgling relationship and most of all the way she will have to carry that poison. She will deservedly have to live with her actions but she will never be allowed to forget them.

Remember Julia Roberts in Notting Hill? She reminded us that people, pictures and history never go away in this connected world however what the world does with it is something we can influence.

I think the bigger issue today is that everyone is so concerned about what others might think!  Live your life, don’t be an attention whore wanting to be on everyone’s radar, and have a good time.
