What are friends for?

So I was talking with mat today. We went out for pizza at Old Chicago, it was great. Their waitresses are quite the lookers.

Anyways, we were talking about numerous things, but one of the couple things that came up kind of baffle me.  Friendship mainly.  Now, I know I’ve talked about some aspects before (the initialization of friendship, and such) But, what I consider a friend and what other people consider friends? And what THEIR version of friends do in contrast to MY version.

Now, I bring this up because Shannon has asked me to help fix her computer, and Television and insists on paying me.  Now, I may need money, but I cannot accept money from friends for something this small. That is never how I treated my friends. I’ve never charged anyone for anything unless it was WAY too much to simply do.  Sometimes I’d charge for gas because I literally needed gas and had no money to chauffer them around.  But otherwise, it was no big deal.

It raises the question about friends.  Now to me it’s a typical thing to not accept money. It’s not something I’d even consider. But I think it appalls Shannon that I don’t want any money. Now why is this? All my friends would be surprised if I mentioned money.  Now I can understand that she doesn’t know me all that well yet, so may not expect it.  But we call each other friends, so to me it should be normal.  But to her…

I mean, am I spoiled? I have only a handful of friends. I could count them on my hands, But the ones I have are good friends. the type that will treat me to a movie if they have a few extra bucks and were bored.  The kind that will call and ask me for computer help, and I’ll have them bring their computer over and leave it here overnight while I stay up until all hours trying to fix it.  Are most friendships not of this caliber? Do most people label friends much looser then others? Is it just how I was brought up? Or is it the fact that only friends I really have, I’m good friends with. So I may come on a little bit too strong with friendships when I finally get new friends.  I’m the type who will ride with you from Point A to Point B just because. no rhyme or reason.  Why else would I do? Sit at home and stare at nothing. Anything is better then that.  Someone needs help fixing a car (though I can’t do much) I’ll do what I can. Computer help? No problem. I’ll be there soon. It’s just a natural thing.

I guess from now on, anyone who calls me a friend knows what to expect from me and what I am offering, of my own free will.  So feel free to ask something of me.  If I cannot do it, I’ll let you know, but I do whatever I can to help.

ThatÂ’s just who I am.

I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad. That the dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had.

i guess i am just not used to people doing things like that for me. usually if i asked anyone to do that they would laugh at me unless they had some incentive. i dont know?

Yeah I can see where you are coming from. Normally My frineds and I do things for each, thats just the way it gose. But first of all Shannon is a generous person, and I think she dosen’t want you to think she is using you or something, you guys don’t know each other very well and all.

I guess that could make sense, what with whats happened as of late. But I don’t think that. I’m offering. =) Just trying to become a better friend and get to know you all a bit better, you know? And I hope this post didn’t offend anyone. Wasn’t meant to. Was just genuinley curious.

I’m the same way. I’ll bend over backwards to help my friends and I know they would do the same. It’s nice to have people like that in your life. {{{Hugz}}} ~Amy
