“Thank you to our sponsors, we are now back with Hayden Budois… I’m handing the floor back over to you now.”
“I’m not going to regale you with a story of my entertainment days. I want to go further back to my childhood, about age 10. We moved to South Carolina just as I was turning 10, we had moved there from a small village just outside of Paris. It was by far a different world for me in the US. I started school a month after arriving. My school had already been somewhat integrated between white and black children. When I say somewhat, I mean that they were there, but we did not share classes, bathrooms, or lunch…we did however have the same PE. It was at PE that I meet my first friend. She was a black girl sitting alone under a tree. She seemed to be a lost, sad soul. I was also in that same boat. My father was a mean, violent man. He would hit me, my siblings and mother. He spoke no good words to any of us, and made us feel worthless. I approached this other girl and introduced myself. It was indeed true; her home life was sort of the same. Her parents were poor and both over worked. She lived in a slumming environment and her father on occasion would also hit his family, however only when drunk. We bantered with each other for days over our shared misfortunes. We became the best of friends. Over the years she would come sleep over at our house, but I was forbidden to go sleep at hers.”

Another loud noise rang out threw the downstairs of the house! “OMG, everything is working against me to not get done with Christmas prep before they wake up.” The young man said in disgust. It was the dog, who let out a loud morning bark. “Fine, Russell… It’s nearly two hours before your normal walking time, but hell I’ll take you out in the dark and cold.” He grabs the leash, rounds up the garbage from multiple wrapping and rewrapping and heads outside. It’s quite cold with a fine layer of snow on the ground. Wrestling with two bags, a dog and while in his robe…he realizes that he could have used some assistance. He presses on and gets back in the house. “One minute longer and I would have been frozen to death!” he mutters under his breath. Needing to warm up and exhausted he falls into a recliner and grabs the rest of the cookies and milk. “Santa is done…” The radio still playing but with no energy to fight with it he leaves it on.

“Thank you for sticking with us threw another commercial break. I’m Sal, joined with Hayden Budois. Who is giving us some back-story on her amazing life. Go ahead Hayden your back on.”
“As I was saying, our friendship grew for many years right into high school. Right around this time, things for both of our home lives started to worsen and to seek escape we spent more time together and tried to shut out the rest of the world. I will not shock the listeners with the sordid details of what our fathers did to us. There is no need any more as I have forgiven mine. We did not trust others that did not share our mutual experiences and misfortunes, but we had each other. It was about this time we were both mid 14 when it happened. Our relationship changed and we became physically affectionate towards each other. Now here is the problem… not so much of a shock these days, but back then a lesbian, bi-racial relationship between two kids…well you can imagine the proverbial nukes that would have been launched if it was public knowledge.”
(In the house, the young man perks up after hearing such a steamy affirmation coming from the radio)
“For about a year our love grew and we became closer than ever before. It was our secret and it was something of our own. Only problem is…that it was not our secret, there had been whispers and backroom conversations about our relationship. I later found out that there was question about the level of our relationship even prior to it becoming physical. In light of the coming storm and without warning my father chose to move us. He was good at running from problems. That is why we had come to the US in the first place. Years later as an adult I found out he was escaping a criminal matter from our village in France. It was a week before my 16th birthday and I was only told the night before the move. As to prevent me from running away or seeking refuge with her. We left and headed out to California near LA. Within a few months I was discovered while walking to school for a leading role in a major movie at the time.”
