AM/AM Radio Part 1
AM/AM Radio (Part 1)
About four AM on Christmas morning a young man in his early 30’s staggers down the stairs of his home. He is on his way to play Santa Clause again this year. His heart is over joyed with his role and also saddened by the thoughts that one day he will get to sleep in again on Christmas morning. He has a full house this year, not only his wife and two children but also an aunt and his grandmother. Tired is not the feeling he has, but anticipation of the day ahead…
He steps over to an older stereo system his grandmother gave him years earlier. He turns it on to search for some modern holiday music; however the old stereo only wants to pick up an AM station with some oldies holiday music. No problem, he thinks… “I’ll just leave it there for now.” He heads over past the cookies and milk left on the coffee table to the closet and starts to drag out presents for the kids. As he starts to arrange them the radio changes formats from music to a talk radio type programming.

“Welcome to, inside classic entertainment with Sal. Where we go behind the scenes with industry insiders and learn what went on during the early days of TV, movies and music. Today we have with us Hayden Budois. Actress, producer, writer, director and philanthropist of the arts”

The young man makes an “argh” sound as the show starts. He thinks to himself how absolutely boring! He toils with some wrapping paper and grabs a cookie and sip of milk from Santa’s plate. Almost done with the presents and arrangements, he remembers that his wife asked him to put in the ham and turkey into the oven. This is his first year the wife has let him do this so instead of fiddling with the radio, he heads over to the kitchen leaving the current station on.

“Glad to have you with us Hayden, it’s been a while since you have had any projects. Tell us what’s going on with you…”
“Hello, Sal it’s nice to be on your show. Not much cause for an old lady such as myself to be giving interviews anymore. You’re correct I have not had any projects for a while; I guess you could say that is a symptom of age. I do have one project left Sal, and perhaps your show will help me with it.”
“My goodness, yes anything we can do to help and be a part of it!” You could tell in Sal’s tone of voice he was intrigued.
“Sal, it was a little more than two years ago I had a stroke. The stroke really took the wind out of me and I never fully gained back full mobility. Then just last month during a checkup, I was diagnosed with lung cancer.”
“We here are saddened to hear this, normally I lead the interview with off the hip questions, however today I’ll hand the floor over to you Hayden. If there is anything we can do let us know.”
“You are already doing it Sal; your show will be the medium I need to complete a final project. One that weighs heavy in my heart.”
—
The young man not paying any attention to the radio except for the slight twinge after hearing in the background about someone getting cancer finishes up in the kitchen. A loud crash is heard from the living room. He is fearful that the sound will awaken the kids. He runs in to notice the cats had gotten into the tree and presents. Many of the presents with fancy bows are shredded and some of the low hanging ornaments have been pulled off the tree. After checking to see if anyone awoke, he figures that it would be a good idea to re-wrap many of the presents and shore up the tree. Walking past the coffee table to get more wrapping paper, he snags some more cookies and milk. The plate now half full… He grabs the resources he needs and sets about his work sitting near the stereo as the show continues.
