Yoko Kanno is the goddess of everything

Yesterday the Honey & Clover movie soundtrack arrived from Japan, and I’ve had 24 hours to have a good listen to it now.

The talent of Yoko Kanno is absolutely mindblowing.

When I listen to Dramatic by Yuki and Waltz by Suneohair from the first series, I always think that the sounds of both songs truly capture both the essence of the series, and of-course the essence of what’s at the heart of the anime and music both – the rollercoaster ride of youth and young-adulthood. All of the Honey & Clover anime soundtrack captures this extremely well, and the opening and end themes couldn’t be more perfect.
A hard act to follow?
If you’re Yoko Kanno, not at all.
The entire soundtrack for the movie is amazing – yet again capturing the vibrance, enthusiasm, hope and bittersweet emotion of youth. As the movie has only just opened in Japan this weekend past, there of-course is no subtitled version available and likely won’t be until the DVD releases in Japan, and then only if an international edition is published. Still though, the music from this film is outstanding as always – not only is it powerfully emotive, but as is usually the case with Kanno’s music, it’s been mixed and engineered to the highest quality. There’s one track in particular that is a great exhibit for good rock’n’roll drum compression without over-compression, something that these days is extremely rare.

This film can’t be released soon enough, especially as the second season still airs. Rest assured as soon as a subtitled version becomes available, I’ll have it as fast as is humanly possible.

What a spin out! How was Kita e? I’ve restarted Honey and Clover, probably need to recap a bit as it’s been a while since I last watched an episode. So I’ll tackle that and then move onto Aria me thinks.

RYN’s: Wow. So many responses 🙂 Myspace – I don’t use it often, I just like to keep in touch with my internet-phobic friends who ONLY use myspace and MSN. Why do people judge me for my choice of tv viewing?? Bah! If it makes it easier for you to form an opinion, due to my work roster, I can never watch Neighbours again anyway :p I use BitLord to d/l my anime/manga and such, and it’s good, but I’mstill getting used to torrents. The homestay students we have are getting more and more irritating – continually asking us to entertain them and take them places and I want to slap them around. None of them seem at all homesick though, which is good. I couldn’t put up with it if they were crying all the time. I’m taking a breif reprieve for WoW at the moment Makes me an “ex-WoWer?” Excel is the sh*t. I loved Menchi, although at first I thought she was a cat :/ Vincent is sex. Van Morrison is God. Unfortunately, EB is my only option, as the closest JB Hi-Fi is in Townsville (4 hours away). I miss JB Hi-Fi 🙁 I’ve heard We Love Katamari is good, it’s on order for me. I’m pretty sure Emo Day was semi-global, a friend of mine in the US told me about it.

I’m a geek at heart. Also, I like the shiny lights XD Forums give the anonymous masses yet another outlet for their stupidity. When I’m feeling childish I like to post things along the lines of “Chuck Norris is my hero!” and observe the ensuing choruses of “omfg noob”. XD
