Swing lesson 14 | Werribee
So as it is becoming the tradition, I really don’t want anyone to miss things I’ve written in-between Swing entries as I gather this more or less bores the crap out of everyone – no matter, these are my own notes. If Swing isn’t your thing, go back and read this piece of creative writing. It’s the entry before this one, but I even lazy-linked it for you! That definitely deserves a look…
(Wednesday nights at Werribee Kindergarden Community Room)
It’s Wednesday again which means it’s the best Swing-night of the week, though last Monday Brunswick gave 6-beat tripples a run for its money. Nevertheless, we reviewed our standard tripple steps and the front-replace send-out, switching into cross-hand open position once we’re out there. From here we swung back into closed (follows turn and leads ‘catch’ their backs with a low right-hand) and then after a vanilla, added two steps in the middle of the tripples which make…
duh-duh-duh-duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhm…
8 beats!
And so without really saying too much (or anything at all), we now have the footwork for 8-beat Lindy! Rock-step, tripple, two-step, tripple! Now all we have to learn are the swing-outs, and we’re set! Well, the basics anyway.
Everyone is nailing it pretty fast now, and almost every follow is absolutely fantastic at it. Sure we all have a long way to go with confidence, consistency and styling, but the most important part is nailing the footwork, and everyone is making huge headroads to having the step-department well and truly taken care of. Not so slowly, and very surely, we’re getting into the groove; in fact for a class that only began tripples a few weeks ago, we’re all doing great!

Tonight Deej’s (my brother) wife Zoe came along with us, as well as one of our best friends Tank. They had a blast and afterwards we went for crepes and coffee which I havn’t done in a long while. It was great to see Catherine and her husband Jean-Marie again at Breizoz and their coffee and French delights were gorgeous as usual!
Driving home after a great Swing lesson and a great night out though, and listening to Drophere by dZihan & Kamien peaked my mood, and right now I feel on top of the world. If you were here right now, I would want you to press me up against the wall and kiss me – anyone, whoever, boys included for the brave ones ;D
If you hadn’t noticed, I’ve been in a particularly sexual and extremely romantic mood these last few days. I wonder what it is – freshly being single? Swing dancing? Anime? An increase in writing? I’m thinking it’s a healthy combination of them all…
My god it feels good to be alive.
