Starmaltesers

You know what goes best with some good company, a bottle of water, some Maltesers and evening meds? Movies.
Last weekend’s film was Stardust.

I gave it 7.

Which is not a shameful rating at all, in-fact many of my favourite films get 7. A 7 means good, even great, enjoyable, fun, heartwarming etc., but not reaching into the upper echelons of brilliant film.
In regards to Stardust, I haven’t read the book, but the film had a little sense of cram-it-all-in about it. Each scene is great in its own right, however the sum of the parts looks like a bit of a patchwork quilt. Book adaptations are always plagued by this quandry, and so comes in the almighty changes, additions and omissions that the h4rdk043 fans always hate, and which I am always greatly forgiving with. The film is not the book, nor the book the film. They must be treated almost as entirely separate stories and judged on their own non-comparitive merits.
Stardust is often visually beautiful, and most of the acting is good, however the star of the show… (*crickets*) absolutely has to be Claire Danes doing a British accent. Now that was just damn sexy. So too the thing with the glowing when happy. Cute. Cute indeed.

How am I supposed to keep wathcing films? I have drums now. Electronic drums to boot. Electronic drums that I can do a bit of programming with a la making my own kits, though nowhere near as deep as programming a synth. I sigh. I still have Farscape to get through which I’m thoroughly enjoying, and a whole stack of films after that. There just isn’t enough time in the day.

I would love to hear ya beatin on those drums sometime. Meanwhile, I will say that yes, Stardust the book and movie are very different, but both are equally enjoyable in their own ways. The book was my first Gaiman read, so I’m partial to it. A fantastic lil read. Fast and fun.
