Romance Nouveau – Together

Driving a car restricted to CDA has certainly changed the way I playlist, and I’m quite happy with the compilations I’m issuing these days. Sure enough, some of them are temporary until they merge and evolve into tighter, better flowing and more focussed collections, but I find myself hitting the mark quickly when working with the 80 minute format.

Romance Nouveau is an evolution of a series I started in 2005 called ‘Sensual’, however now that my music library has expanded and my playlisting skills have improved, I find that it’s appropriate to revisit this idea of romantic intimacy in a new way. The first compilation is actually called ‘Surrender’ and was inspired by a single Crazy Penis song, but the theme is certainly already at a much more intimate stage. Listening to some livelier music recently, I was inspired to make a groovy, fun playlist that focuses on cruising around, and I realised that it fits really well with the ideologies of the Nouveau series; listening with a loved-one in a car and just enjoying the drive.

‘Together’ comes as an interruption as I am still working on ‘Intimacy’, which will be the direct replacement of my ‘Sensual’ compilations, utilising the best tracks from those collections and producing a more focussed, more intense and intimate sound, but I must say that it just fell easily into place.

The centrepieces that inspired this compilation were pretty much Kylie, Empire of the Sun and that wonderful Crazy Penis track that made it to this one. Also the Fred Falke remix of Lose Control by Kish Mauve is a phenomenal track and I’ve been dying to work it into a driving playlist, to much success here. It’s also great to get Yuki’s Rendezvous in while we await the forthcoming album, a great vibrant finisher to the playlist.
