1st priority (ep 6) | rerun
This is my first re-watch of the series since I first saw it upon release. I am even more in awe of Yoshitoshi ABe and his creations than ever before.

The mood of Texhnolyze is so astoundingly perfect for my mode right now, as generally is the case when I take a deep breath and reach for the Yoshitoshi ABe DVDs. Texhnolyze is as much a commentary on traditionalist Japan as it is about humanity as a whole, but what amazes me more than that is the deeply intimate yet extremely graceful and subtle sub-texts and themes. Texhnolyze truly is beautiful in every element; visual style, narrative, atmosphere and character dimension. Once again I’m in love with Doc (Eriko) and Ichise, particularly Doc, which reminds me of when I first experienced this series. Back then I also loved Onishi and Shinji, but as I watch this for the second time I’m seeing so many emotional expressions in their characters. I think perhaps I saw them the first time, but now they’ve become greatly amplified in regards to meaning and relevance to myself.
Texhnolyze continues to amaze me in the way only abstract seinen can; deep narrative-food for the brain, and articulate expressions of emotion for the heart. Once again I’m amazed.
