Me like tings

Yesterday I got a new mobile phone (cell for our NA cousins), or rather it was delivered to the office.
The first thing I did was not restoring my contacts from the backup file I made the night before. The first 10 minutes with the phone was spent setting it up so it behaves almost exactly like my old phone, which I would have gladly kept if it weren’t three and a half years old, battered, and starting to forget where it put its slippers in the morning. This happens to phones when they get old, they just start behaving strangely, almost exactly like going senile.
I say almost exactly the same as my old phone, because some of the new features are actually useful, like being able to assign a few more shortcuts than I previously could. Otherwise I turned all of the new features off.
I require two things from a mobile;
Make and receive calls.
Send and receive text messages.
I do not care for the other fluff, even though I do tend to use some of it – basic things like notes/reminders in the calendar, alarm and custom mp3 tones which I of-course create myself at home on my PC… why on earth you would pay for them when you can make them yourself is baffling.
In any case, it does have one nifty feature which is ultimately silly but really really cool. When it’s asleep, you tap it twice and the screen lights-up with the time.
Champion.
One slight negative is that the keypad is slightly more impeded than on the old phone, and so I’m going to have to cut my nails. They’re getting long anyway so it’s as good an excuse as any. My first few texts had some very strange typos indeed.

Currently I am:
– Drinking red wine often, at least one bottle a week, usually over two or three days.
– Eating rice-cake things, I think they’re called corn-thins probably because they are thin and also have corn in them. The flavoured ones are a bit strange with their strange powdered flavour strangeness, but I just like plain ones with Philadelphia cream-cheese.
– Addicted to Yoplait Lite French Cheesecake flavoured yogurt. It’s beautiful.
– Very plain Arnott’s biscuits, namely Shortbread Creams and Chocolate Scotch-Fingers. Some people like really elaborate biscuits with every known chocolate, caramel, nut and god-knows what else on them, but I just like plain stuff.

How to people break PCs?
In all of my years of using PCs since Windows 3.11, after all of my hardware swapping, program installing and de-installing, software modding, driver updating shenanigans, I have never killed a PC to the extent where I had to re-install Windows or format a hard-drive.
It then falls to me to fix them.
I have to admit, I had no idea how to recover an XP install, because I’ve never had to recover one before. This led to spending probably 4 hours more than I needed to on it.
This must be proof of the existence of at least two gods. One who likes me and keeps every PC I run healthy regardless of what I do to it, and one that is insanely jealous of the fact, and constantly makes people who know less about PCs than me capable of breaking their computers and asking me to fix them.
Sigh.
They were afterall my parents, and I do love them. I think. I think I still love them.
After the upteenth time of fixing their broken PC, I’m not entirely sure anymore.

It’s raining everywhere in Australia except Melbourne. I want that rain. We need that rain. I know we’re all in this together and we’re supposed to take short showers, but for me taking a 3 minute shower is like having someone feel you up for 3 minutes and then slapping you in the face and walking away. I love my showers.
I love them so much.
If I can’t take long showers it’s going to make my cry!
Bah – suck-it-up. We live in a desert and we all have to do our bit, I’m sure I’ll get over it. It is after-all for the greater good of the community.

Good thing you clarified what mobile meant, I was ready to ask ‘what means this…mobile phone?’ Yeah..we calls em cellys here. Mobile phone is so 90s..to our throw-away society anyhow.

haha i got a giggle at the note above mine… thats great! (im kinda a mixed mutt now so i understand both, quite well!) Its ABOUT to rain here.. figures, since im about to head to lunch.. to the PARK to eat OUTSIDE… heh…. change of plans?? Funny about the way you described the short showers. I agree!! Its nearly impossible to get everything done in 3 minutes that I do in the shower…

it makes me feel rushed and I hate that!! Hmm I have never broken a PC… but have pretty bad luck with laptops… they tend to poop out on me more than anyone I know. crap fun.

that’s the most accurate analogy i’ve ever heard about a dying phone. 3.11. wow… when you still had to type win at the C/: prompt. 3 minute showers? seriously? I can’t even wash my hair in 3 minutes much less my entire body.

i think one bottle of red per week is okay. it’s only when you get to my father’s levels of one cask a day when things start to get funny in ze brain. the weirdest thing is that while reading about your new mobile phone, mine went off! it scared me half to buggery it did, the short shower thing sucks indeed. i find myself lately just sneaking in longer and longer times. the other day i had a15-minute-r. please don’t report me but man it was crucial for my sanity. maybe you should indulge as well.

Im in Melbourne and its raining right at this moment! Yay! Xx

I would die without my fifteen minute showers, sometimes twice a day. It is the one place I can truly relax.

These new fangled things confuse me. I’ve never had anything more complex than basic model mobiles under $100 because I always thought they were just for making & receiving calls and sending/receiving texts. Imagine my surprise when they force sold me an iPhone after losing mine and I realised people used them for EVERYTHING. Still learning some of the functions, then deleting them. useless!

Corn thins have been a dietary staple for me for over 5 years now, love them! So versatile! My two faves are with vegemite, or with Philly XL cream cheese, smoked salmon, alfalfa and tomato (black pepper & squidge of lemon juice). The flavoured ones are a bit funny, they make your teeth scrunch and leave dandruff like trails over black clothing.

I didn’t think Melbourne was so affected by the water shortage, considering you guys are generally the rain stealers.

I remember water rationing when I lived in Frankston

I hate pizza as a rule. I hate melted cheese, I hate certain foods being grouped together, I hate the meat they put on… which is why when I eat pizza it’s vegetarian no cheese, or I make my own. I can’t believe people actually put chicken, wedges, prawns and meatballs on pizza – much less eat pizza with extra cheese and meat in the crust. I could go on and on about pizza, but I’ll stop. Now.

So you go off food, and books, and many other things when you’re sick. Is that because it’s too hard to concentrate for lengthy periods of time? Do you eat food other than soup if its made for you, or bought for you?

December 9, 2008

oooh and and and you craft your own mp3 tones and music, would you share?

December 9, 2008

Ha-Ha. It’s snowing here.

December 9, 2008

but don’t you wonder *who’s* taking that FIVE minute shower? bastards. i don’t think that there is a Yoplait Lite FRENCH cheesecake in the states. i’m insanely jealous! i do like the YL White Chocolate Strawberry and any of the YLs that are pie flavoured.

December 10, 2008

I love my showers too. Sorry we’re stealing your rain. xo

December 10, 2008

Hahaha the shower thing is the best way to describe it. I’m a 15 minute person on average. And you have never had to reformat before? Lucky man.
