Ladies and gentlemen, we have another 10
The film Sunshine.
No, not the 2007 haphazard bag of stale pop-corn would-be sci-fi flick, the 1999 film about Hungary.
Absolutely beautiful storytelling with parallels drawn between what happens to the nation and what transpires between its main characters artfully done on an Oshii scale. Beautiful, tragic, hopeless and ultimately encouraging, film-making like this is rare indeed.
My reception of the film was thoroughly helped along by my hardly thorough but decently formidable knowledge of Hungarian civil history, so others may not be so captured as I was.
Nevertheless, I give it 10 – perfect. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s always inspiring.
