haibane renmei

i finished it saturday night.
it was a tough call, but i ranked it higher than lain.
i know lain is very abstract and just a bit more subtle than haibane, and of-course it was created much earler.  the really emotional parts of lain are much more subtle, as was it’s warmth, but i really found haibane renmei much warmer – but not better, hence it was a tough call.  if i could put them on my shelf equally i would, but if i choose virtical equilibrium, over two shelves, one would have to be on top – and which one should it be?

so as it stands, right to left, the top-order anime goes jin-roh, ghost in the shell, haibane renmei, lain, cowboy bebop, and so on and so forth.  neia_7 is yet to be ranked as i haven’t finished it, chobits, once finished next month, will probably end-up ranked a whole lot higher than it is, quite possibly just after flcl… though i’m thinking of reranking everything after lain.  as great as cowboy bebop is, i’m thinking chobits might actually need to rank higher than it.  also as totally amazing as flcl is, it isn’t as emotional as the others – and though the art in flcl is by far the best, i really rank anime and film by how much it makes me feel – hence jin-roh ranks higher than ghost in the shell.  the same argument for me applies – it’s tough to say one is better than the other, but ghost reminds me of lain – everything emotional about it is abstract, much like myself, and i enjoy it immensely, but jin-roh just has that amazingly strong emotional pull.

i think i’ve said enough.  i don’t know what to watch tonight – i want to watch haibane again but it’s far too soon – and i don’t know if i can deal with anything else at the moment.

perhaps i should just sleep.

This really is a poor translation of a Holy Shit moment. Haibane Renmei is one of the most important experiences in my life, let alone artistic history. The more I fall in love with it, generally the less I say about it now – interesting; it’s a theme that crops up in the more recent and also beautiful Hachikuro. When I think about Haibane Renmei now, it moves into the realm of non-verbal language that I will share with the deepest and most private of intimacies with lovers only.

sleep is good. I’m trying to find a good manga series to pick up myself.. i ended up grabbing excel-saga… stupid funny really.. so i’m a little dissapointed. I should have probably grabbed a Slayers volume for the hell of it. Funny but at least with some rhyme and reason and MEAT to the story.. more than excel at least.. oooroooooo…..

I’m seasoned.. but haven’t been in the loop for quite some time.. So as you can see by my pick of Slayers, I go back to more old school series… *sigh* i want DEPTH! perhaps i’ll look into your current selection. And the tv series Escaflowne is one of my favorites. I strongly recommend you look into perhaps investing in that series next? Just don’t be overwhelmed by the noses… heh
