donkey konga local.

rocks the planet!
i think i’ll have to add a list of games to my front page.  previously i’d felt that kirby’s air-ride was pretty much the most fulfilling multiplayer gaming experience ever, but now i’m inclined to slot-in donkey konga on top.  the track-list is fantastic – my only issues are back for good and busy child didn’t belong on it, wild-thing we could have done without but it’s good for a laugh, and cosmic girl has been so horrendously cut short – first verse and chorus only – stupid sony not licencing the whole track – though at least canned-heat gets a full version.

it is such a fun game to play.  like kirby, it doesn’t matter how good or bad you are, it’s just great to get into it and bounce around and enjoy yourself.  as chibi-r says, the more you get into the groove of the song, the better you’ll be.  between this and amplitude, i’d have to say donkey-konga beats it.  amplitude has a fantastic track-list of original songs, not remakes a la donkey konga, and the gameplay elements of changing instruments/tracks and powerups is great, but it’s just not as fun.  i don’t really like the presentation of amplitude in all it’s techy 3d glory and it’s pseudo destination curving 3d path.  the colours are just not fun to look at.  regarding the remade songs in donkey konga though, they sound fantastic!  vocals are brilliant, and whoever the drummer was for it is an absolute god.  i always let the title screen play – there are about three different drum solos that play over it, i only wish they went for longer!  the donkey konga theme has some fantastic drumming in it, as do most of the acoustic tracks.  hence busy child just sounds like crap.  it really just sounds tacky, and the direction of DK absolutely isn’t electronic.  it’s orchestral and big-band, jazz, rock, cheesy ballads – fantastic!  busy child is something that belongs in a game like amplitude – but they appear in it anyway, i think there’s a pod remix on there.  typical amerikano rock-breaks.  ask chibi-r, he’ll know.

one other item acquired last week was dave mathews band – the videos 1994-2001 which i pretty much bought for stay (wasting time) and crash into me.  dave mathews band is material i’ve actually always really gotten into, but never purchased.  it’d been so long since i’d heard crash into me, i was quite overwhelmed when i heard it and saw the clip again.  it’s become my present theme for Laura and i – it just fills me with so much joy – or really is a great expression of the joy i feel with Laura.

see how special she is?  she gets caps now.
you’re not that special.

Ganbare Donkey Konga!!! It certainly is addicting and an absolute riot. Busy Child is still rather out of place, but play it on the next difficulty up and it’s amazingly playable. Not really because of the music but the patterns you have to do. Bongo breaks!!! lol. And ooh caps! She certainly is special.
