Back history

– I wanted to write a “What I’ve eaten today” entry, but I don’t like it when other writers do it. It’s not something I want to do.
— You don’t like it?
– I don’t mind that other people do it, people should use their diaries for whatever they want, so I think it’s good. It’s not something I want to do.
— Fair enough.
– It’s warm.
— It’s getting warmer.
– It made me think of walking at night.
— That would be nice.
– Yes but, it made me think of people getting bashed for no reason. And I thought, that doesn’t happen in Japan.
— You were very safe there.
– I was.
— You’re not wearing my ring.
– … I’m not?
— No look.
Looks at hand
– I’m not wearing your ring.
Pause
– I’ll go and get it.
— Don’t be silly.
– It’s just in the next room.
Goes to the next room and gets the ring
– I wear this ring more than any other you know.
— Thank you.
– Should I engrave it?
— Hmm?
– With your name.
— People might find that a little strange.
– No-one will know, they won’t see it unless they take it off. Then they’ll ask me who you are.
— They know who I am.
– But who you really are. To me.
— And what will you tell them?
Thinks
– It will depend on who asks me. Most people I don’t think I’d tell.
— Am I a secret?
– Just as much as everything else.
— You’re full of secrets.
– I’m full of things kept secret even from me.
Pause
— You’re going to be all-right.
– Actually, I think I’ll just start disagreeing outright with that. No, in-fact, I’m not going to be all-right.
Pause
– It’s become far, far too late.
Exhale
– But thank you for keeping me company all the same.
— You’re very welcome.
