Making beliefs suit us

Religion is a taboo subject. For the most part no two parties ever seem to agree on particular beliefs. Case in point, there are approximately 33,000 christians in the world today with the same numbers of various interpretations. Those numbers are just for christian denoms  and isn’t including Islam, Paganism, or even Judaism. No wonder there is so much strife when one talks about the subject of religion.

Out of all the various religions in the world, there is one thing that all seem to have in common and can agree on and that is in this day and time, people as a whole seem not to follow their religious beliefs and practices but instead make their beliefs and practices to conform to them as they see fit. What  happened to "obeying the rules" so to speak? I guess that it is just so unbecoming.

With all that being said and out of the way, I can now get to the purpose of this writing, or better yet, venting. I am not a very religious person but I do have my beliefs and I respect the beliefs of others and will not condemn but I will help them defend their beliefs even if I don’t agree with them. To each his own and that is how it should be.

I am not a big sports person but I do enjoy boxing, college football ( Fear the Spear ), and a few others from time to time. As in most sports their is the individual and or team prayer that is made, usually behind closed doors so as not to offend others, and they ask to keep everyone safe and free from injury and that is all well and good.

Now in the christian beliefs, the Sabbath is a day of rest and also of worship and in the Bible it says that you aren’t to work or make your servant work. Now comes Tebow and all his "Tebowing", giving praise and thanks for another succesful pass or touchdown and asking to win a game. The guy is a good quarterback and that I won’t deny but isn’t he denying his faith by desecrating the sabbath to play a game, even if it is his job but it is still just a game. Do you think any Deity really cares who wins a freakin game? I wouldn’t think they would.  In fact, I would think that they would find it offensive.

It all goes to show just how a religious belief is contorted so that the ends justify the means so to speak. People tend to take them and make them fit their needs at the time. I can’t pray right now but I can squeeze a prayer in the middle of next week. That works better for me. Geesh. One thing is for certain and that is no matter what afterlife existance you may believe in, be it Heaven, Valhalla, etc. you won’t recieve a reward per se but just the opposite if you mold a religion around your own mortal wants and needs.
