Enough is enough

I will and have to agree that the recent school shooting was a great tragedy and it never should have happened. Lives were taken that hadn’t even got started good yet and who knows, their might have been another Einstein in the making but society will never know now.

It’s completely understandable for various people to be on the whole gun ban kick and want to do away with guns altogether but the truth to the matter is a gun didn’t take those young lives. It was another person and NOT the guns doing and yes I am pro-gun and own a few.

People died that December day at a school and most were just children but the thing is, their young lives could have been taken in several gruesome and different ways such as by a bombing/explosion, fire, machete/axe or even by driving through the building in a vehicle. It seems to me that all the people demanding gun bans/control fail to see the other possible ways of comitting violent acts against others and the taking of lives.

I read another diary before starting to write my own and the person made a statement about Timothy McVeigh wanting others to take up arms against the goverment. I replied to their posting that McVeigh didn’t shoot anyone in the Oklahoma tragedy but instead he blew the building up and killed numerous people with a simple bomb made from perfectly legal to purchase and possess fertilizer and fuel and I know from working with the same components in the mining industry exactly what kind of damage can be done.

Why is it that the only time you hear about guns is when a senseless killing occurs??? On that same note, why don’t we hear about all the lives that were SAVED because of a gun??? Just because you might not like something doesn’t mean that you have the right to keep others from doing what they like. If you don’t like guns, don’t own one. If you don’t like smoking, don’t smoke. I might not like for certain people to breathe but that doesn’t give me the right to make them stop now does it???

The coin has two sides meaning that their will always be people that like something and those that don’t. If you stop and actually think about it, if guns are done away with, crimes and murders will become more violent in nature. A baseball bat can kill you just as good as a gun can but the gun would be a quicker and less violent death. A ban on guns or more laws on them isn’t needed. We already have the laws but they just need to be enforced.

One final thought. When something is done away with it is always replaced by something else in due time but the thing is the replacement might be far worse than the original.

So baseball bats are more lethal than guns? Then why is every mass murder done with FIREARMS? And way to miss my point about the Timothy McVeigh comparison — I was pointing out that he was an anti-government fanatic who carried killed hundreds of innocent people, because he was delusional enough to think his rights were under attack. Lots of gun nuts have ALREADY threatened to kill anyone in favour of gun control, INCLUDING THE PRESIDENT. You’ve lost.

Exactly — high powered guns that are only intended to kill lots of people, have no place in the hands of civilians. And BTW because of people like McVeigh, you have to go through background checks in order to buy certain types of fertilizer. So why should it be any different or easier, to buy something that is only intended to take lives?

BTW could it not be that the reason why we never hear about assault weapons in civilian hands, saving lives, is because it never freaking happens?

What about the man in China that stabbed 20+ kids the same day as Newtown? If someone wants to cause harm, they will do it by any means necessary — guns or no guns. By that logic, I guess we should ban owning knives too, eh? Never know who’s got one in their pocket or purse, just waiting to pounce on some unsuspecting person

RYN: I completely agree with you, and that’s my logic too. You rarely hear on the news the incidents when someone protected themselves or others with legally carried guns. That stuff never goes nation-wide, but it happens and is perhaps under-reported. That’s where YouTube comes in handy

RYN: cant say i disagree with you, doesnt seem like there is much of a chance left to turn this around, just a continual slide donwards, maybe we can change the slope but… still going down. As to this entry, very well said. Its insane that liberals who pride themselves on “common sense”, and “rational” thought, completely ignore statistics. If they really wanted to save lives, guns would be one of the last things on their list.
