Ione S. Weckerly
CUBA CITY, Wis. — Ione S. Weckerly, 87, of Cuba City, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home, Cuba City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Benton Bible Church, with the Rev. Nelson Perkinson officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Casey Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Cuba City. Friends also may call after 8:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.
She was born on April 4, 1922, in Rush Township, Jo Daviess County, Ill., daughter of Ira and Estella (Darnill) Logemann. She married Robert Weckerly on Jan. 21, 1946; he preceded her in death.
She worked for 10 years at Pash’s Drug Store in Warren, Ill. After moving to Cuba City in the late 1980s, Ione began volunteering for the Foster Grandparent Program at Benton Elementary School. She absolutely adored working with the children.
Ione was a member of the Benton Bible Church. She found her strength in God and loved going to weekly Bible study. Her faith was evident in all she encountered in her life.
She loved music, and particularly loved the Gaithers and anything Southern gospel. She loved playing the piano and singing. Whenever her grandchildren came to her house, she always told them that if they wanted to play her piano, they had to sing for her too. Ione treasured moments spent with her great-grandchildren. She loved playing card games with them, especially Crazy Eights, Go Fish and Old Maid.
Ione was a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be missed dearly by those who came to know her.
Surviving are her daughter, Carol Frazer, of Platteville; her son, Jess (Christine) Weckerly, of Escalon, Calif.; five grandchildren, Joy (Casey) Thompson, of Cuba City, Elizabeth (Michael) Gallegos, of Modesto, Calif., and Dane, Ashley and Charles Weckerly, all of Escalon; six great-grandchildren, Isaac, Caleb and Noah Thompson, of Cuba City, and Arianna, McKayla and Isabella Gallegos, of Modesto; three sisters, Lucille Molter, of Camp Verde, Ariz., Joan Goard, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jean Banwarth, of Woodland, Calif.; and a brother, Eldon (Mary Lou) Logemann, Stockton, Ill.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Estella Logemann; three sisters, Mae, Judy and an infant sister, Jane; and two brothers, Richard and Bruce.
