Need decor ideas, please!!! w/ Pics
I am COMPLETELY hung up on decorating. For real.
I’ve been kind of stressing about the tiny tiny kitchen set up. I mean, I still totally stand by my reasoning. You can fix a kitchen! You can’t get more/a better yard! I was worried Matt was going to kind of shrug off the kitchen thing, but he spoke up this morning and said that he thinks we should put some money into it. THANK goodness. He’s open to my ideas about it, so far.
I looked at the pictures again, and seriously…I need to take my own to get better ideas but I THINK the country wallpaper only covers the kitchen and part of the addition. It doesn’t look like it’s in the living room or dining room, so amen to THAT. The color is kind of a yellow-y beige right now (in those two rooms). Here’s my dilema. I totally forgot about my maroon-ish rocker. I’m kind of totally over red, but I can’t really do anything about that. We need our recliner. SOooo, hmm. Any decorating suggestions?
Okay I’m going to show you the tiny ass kitchen.
The room doesn’t look small, right? Buuut see how they squished a fridge, stove, microwave, sink & dishwasher alllll together on one wall with about ZERO counter space? WTF. And how did the owners live there for so long with 4 KIDS and not update that?
See the buffet thing they have on the other wall? We are thinking of moving 1 appliance over there (probably something solely electric – I actually thought maybe the sink and dishwasher because one of the bathrooms are behind that wall, but….I’m pretty sure it’s the basement entrance, THEN the bathroom so that probably won’t work) and then adding in some cabinets around it. We can’t extend them all the way to the back wall because the doors extend the width of the kitchen, but, we were thinking the cupboards could come out a touch and turn towards the fridge like an L shape. It would break up the rooms a bit, too. The nice thing is, look at the actual floor cabinets on that wall. A tiny row of drawers, and a hollow sink one. And the counter tops? Almost non-existent. So whatever we decide to do to the opposite wall – it shouldn’t be over-the-top expensive to make those match since there’s not much to replace! Depending on what/when we decided to do the work….we could leave the room the way it is and I WILL make it look like that super cute kitchen later on. Though it may be easier to get the wallpaper removal done now, paint it something light & neutral, and then just slap up better paint when we fix it up.
Oh, btw…not sure if I mentioned. We get the stove, microwave & fridge (and dishwasher & garbage disposal obviously, too). The fridge is nothing to be excited about….but it will hold us over til we are ready to replace it. Probably when we re-do the kitchen.
I just got word that the inspection is Thursday at 1pm (assuming all goes well tonight with the contract). So I’ll take pictures then and try to make decisions on the wall colors and decor. I just chatted with my cousin about it and she suggested hosting a painting party the week we close. We were already planning on staying out of it for a bit and painting the rooms – but I really like this idea. That way the work will get done A LOT faster! I really feel like this is going to move quickly, considering the owners really want to move on (and they had A LOT of their things packed up into a pod in the driveway, already) so I want to be ready with all of this!
Here’s a picture of the living room:
This picture makes it look smaller than it is. I’ll try to get a better one Thursday, but you can kinda see the wall color. It’s like a yellowy, creamy beige. Not unlivable. But I’m just not sure what to do in there. Our current couches are temporary (will eventually end up in the rec room), but we do have to consider the red recliner. Any suggestions on paint color?
While I’m at it, here’s a shot of the yard:
As far back as you can see is ours. Amaaazing or what?
I have my fingers crossed for you! That kitchen is kinda tiny how it is now but at least the space is there for you guys to add more cupboards/counters and unsquish some of the appliances lol The yard is AMAZING and like you said you can’t change that so I’m sure you’ll get lots of great use out of that! Also I think you should go with a light brown/tan for the living space. It goes with maroon well too so your recliner will still fit in. I hope everything works out and you definitely get the house 🙂
