House Update
Step one is done. The contract is completed & signed.
Everything was sent on it’s way this evening.
Tomorrow is the Radon test, Thursday is the inspection. Matt & I are both attending it and I’m hoping to get some good pictures then. If everything goes good Thursday (we have to request our repairs and have the inspection settled by the end of the day Thursday), then Friday we can the loan going. Matt is going to be out of town next week (not sure if I mentioned that before) so we either have to hope our loan officer is available Friday, or can sit down with just me next week. They require the process to be started no later than 5 business days after the inspection approval….so we can’t wait for Matt to get back. I hope that doesn’t get too complicated next week.
After that, we just wait. From what I hear, it takes longer up here than it does in Charlotte. Colleen (our agent) mentioned that it will probably take about 8 weeks and that kind of shocked me. When we bought our house, the contract was signed March 2nd (07) and we closed April 2nd. When we sold our house, the contract was signed October 6th (09) and we closed November 9th. We were so accustomed to a 30 day (or nearly 30 day) process that 8 weeks sounded like an eternity! However, she thinks if we can get our loan officer to move quickly we could do it in 6 weeks or so, but not any sooner than that. So we are looking at anywhere from the very end of April to the middle of May. The latest date she has us scheduled for is May 14th. SO, if everything goes well, we will be in there no later than that date.
Well…that’s not entirely true. If we do close that day, we will spend a week painting & cleaning. So I guess the most accurate way to say this is, we will be living there by the end of May. Possibly sooner.
That gives us more time than we expected to have. Which isn’t terrible. It gives us more time to save up money, collect supplies, prepare to make the move. It’s a smart wait, despite us being so antsy, now. Can I just tell you how UNenthusiastic I am about the actual move, though? UGH! I mean I’m totally cool with painting and even unpacking. But the packing and the move itself? UGH. I guess it’s a blessing that we found something already, but it’s so exhausting moving an entire household TWICE in 7 months. GOODNESS! At least this move will be a lot easier. And faster. And cheaper.
The response I’ve been getting from family is awesome. Everyone I’ve talked to is so excited to see the place in person. Seriously – that yard IS something to get excited about!! Even my Grandma! She was like "you have a great party house!", and she called the back yard "a little slice of heaven" lol. She & my mom are already making plans to sleep over in the summer and babysit and have fires and swim. It’s exactly what I wanted in a house here. Family!!!
Thanks for your input on the decor! I think I’m taking your guys’ advice and going with a nice tan for the living room. Almost all of you suggested it! It’s neutral enough to work with for a long while and will compliment the recliner. And I’m undecided if the dining room will be the same color (more like I have to be there to see the division to know). That’s pretty much the only decision I’ve made, though. We’ll talk about it again when I get better pictures Thursday 🙂
