*****6 Girls and 2 Boys*****
I had Bailey’s due date set as the 14th, which is tomorrow, but she wasn’t lactating or anything so I thought maybe I was off by a week or so since I didn’t know when she actually mated. So, Stephen stayed home yesterday because he was sick, he left the house at 2 to come meet me at the doctor. After the doctor we went to a plant nursery, bought some things then went to eat at a Chinese Buffet. While we were eating I asked him about Bailey, he said she was still pregnant. So I told him that maybe I was wrong with my dates and she wasn’t going to have them for another week or so. We left the buffet and headed home, he was going to stop by someones house briefly so I got home first. When I pulled up to the house Bailey was inside her house, which was strange in itself because normally she is out jumping around, barking and excited to see me. So I immediately knew something was going on. I got out of the truck called her name and asked her what was going on. I could see her in her house look up at me and I saw her panting, that’s when I knew she was in labor or something…..I rushed over to her dog house……and inside were 8 little black and white puppies. I called Stephen, who then hurried home. It was his first time to ever have puppies and see them newborn. They were still a little wet, so I knew she hadn’t been done for that long. It was 6pm by then so my guess is she had them between 4 and 5:30ish. So I noticed her water bowl was empty, I filled it up for her and she ran out to get some water, then she stopped panting. Labor is hard work and she was thirsty. I ran inside, got my camera and Stephen got home about then. So, we pulled them out, one at a time to figure out what we had, 6 girls and 2 boys. She was really good about us handling the pups. Sometimes you have to be careful because momma dogs get very protective of their babies. We’ve only had one dog to ever really be aggressive with pups. She was a little nervous at first, you could tell, about us handling them. In fact, when I was counting up the sexes she wanted to pull them back in her house but I assured her it was ok and she waited patiently while I did my thing. However, when the other dogs (my sisters that are loose) came near her house she was protective and ran them off. Ever since she got pregnant she has been different towards those dogs, not wanting them to get too close to her. So, she lets us near them just not the other animals.
They are sooooo cute, I just wanted to curl up in her house with them. Stephen named one Jersey, it’s a little girl, and she has the most white on her of all of them so he named her Jersey after a Jersey Milk Cow. I wasn’t sure if that was the right name at the time, so I just looked it up, its actually a Holstein that is the black and white milk cow and the Jerseys are brown……but oh well.
Im bummed that we weren’t there for the actual birth. Sometimes when we let them loose for the weekend we don’t tie them back up…but I made it a point to at least get Bailey tied up Sunday evening, this way she didn’t have them somewhere else. I wanted her to have them in her house and that’s it. So, it’s a good thing I made it a point to tie her up. When I got home yesterday I untied her, I figure she’s not going too far any time soon and it will be easier for her not to be tied up with puppies so I just untied her.
I’m excited and thrilled about the puppies. Of course in a few short weeks my thoughts will be different, I will be ready to get rid of them. So our official head count as of right now is 11 dogs that are ours. Then there are the 3 of my sisters that she just left there that we are taking care of. Did I mention how cute they are. They are so tiny. We dont know who daddy is just yet. They all have the same colors as their mom so its really hard to tell.
And yes, I have pics. I really need to gather up the rest of my pics that I want to share.
Before I share pics…..the doc says no traveling after week 28, so if we are going to New York for a shower it has to be by the middle of next month. Other than that and a little excess bacteria things are good.
I feel her moving alot more now, which is cool. It doesnt make me feel so uneasy any more, although it is still a weird sensation. My hips/pelvic area are in lots of pain. Things loosening up to get ready to accommodate Miss Brooke. It seems like its too early for this to start happening but apparently it isnt, I did a little research on it earlier. Its even painful for me to stand up and try to lift my leg and put it in my panties or pants….I can hardly lift my foot off the floor to do that. Plus, sleeping is starting to become painful/uncomfortable because of it. Ive noticed Im tossing and turning more and more. Maybe I do need to try one of those body pillows. I dunno, I just know it hurts.
Dad is now not leaving his rehab until the 10th, but he is making progress and walking a bit and thats all that matters. Things are still looking up and his outlook on his situation is becoming more positive.
Alright……pics!!
This is the new momma, Miss Bailey!! Just to refresh your memory if you dont remember me sharing her pic before.

Awww soooo cute! Wish I could adopt one from you. They are precious. Too bad you didn’t witness the birth but it’s a good thing you kept her near the house. I’m glad your dad is making progress too. That’s awesome!
