I’ve had a pretty lackluster day today. My darling girls went to bed closer to 11pm last night….then decided that 5am was an acceptable time to wake up and play. I lasted until 6 trying to get them back to sleep, then gave up and took them into the living room so Ali could try and sleep a bit more before work. I pulled a big blanket and pillow onto the couch and turned on Finding Nemo. They happily played and I cat napped. Towards the beginning of the movie, Ella took off her pj’s, leaving only a long shirt on underneath…..towards the end of the movie she was COLD and eagerly climbed in next to me and put her cold legs and hands wherever felt warmest….brrrr!!!! lol. I managed to wrap her in the edge of the blanket and cuddle her that way before she did too much damage.
Anyway, when I heard Ali’s alarm go off, I took Ella back in our room (while Anna was still mesmerized by Nemo) and she cuddled with daddy until she fell asleep. Once she was asleep, Ali vacated, I shoved Ella into his spot, and retrieved Annabelle now that the movie was finished. She was happy to have a binky and fall almost straight to sleep. It was BLISS to cuddle next to my sleeping girls and go back to sleep. I only managed a tiny bit of guilt that Ali had to head to work, lol.
We slept until 10:30, and it was Annabelle who woke us up. We had a very slow morning after that, and before we knew it, daddy was home for lunch!
We dropped Ali back to work after lunch, and went straight to Farmers for some shopping! I needed to get my friend’s daughter a bday present for her 2nd bday party we are attending tomorrow, and since there’s a toy sale on, thought I might add a gift or two to the Christmas/Birthday pile. (ok, so it doesn’t quite qualify for the term ‘pile’ yet…but we’re getting there)
The girls were awful and just wanted to get out and look. I would have let them too, but it was sooo busy, I didn’t want the hassle. I hurriedly decided on a Dora teaset for the daughter, and wound up buying the Tag Jr system with a book, since it was 40% off, plus a book was 50% off when you bought it with the system. Not bad, and I have been wanting to get it for Ella anyway 🙂
So we headed home and I realised I forgot the wrapping paper! Said forget it, girls fussy….so we went home and had some ‘lunch’, and put Anna down to sleep. I was gonna have Ella tough it through til bedtime, but by 3, she was SO grumpy, I put her down and she was OUT. I peeked in and she was so cute, blankets all pulled up and scrunched around her, only forehead and tops of eyes peeping out….and firmly clutching her baby doll of course!
While the girls were out I facebooked and trademe’d (selling of course!) and shopped a wee bit for my cake class coming up, and for supplies I will need for my near future cakes!
Ali had a rough day at work (some export issues, firmly not his fault, but big enquiry, as this mistake could cost the company its export license! Huge issue over a clerical error of a single date!), so he wanted to walk home and clear his head. I was happy to stay indoors and warm, so let him.
We went to the video store and rented a few new kids ones. Really, we should just be buying a new dvd every fortnight for the same money we’ve been spending there. Will have to implement that. We definitely need to pad out our kids movie collection, and we’ve probably spent over $100 all up in the last few months….eek! $5-10 adds up!
Dinner was simple, hung out with the kids, then bedtime! Ali car racing on his computer, and I’m on my computer nibbling some freshly baked cookies before climbing into bed and playing some solitaire on my ipod before sleep. 🙂 Midnight, here we come again! Maybe my babies will sleep longer….sigh.
2 bday parties tomorrow, 1 kid, 1 adult. Will see how we go!!
Hi found you on the front page. The going back to sleep bit and sleeping in with the girls sounds magic.

RYN: Thanks for your reply! I married a kiwi guy too, but he was in Oz. We’ve talked about moving to NZ because we love it over there, but won’t happen for a while if at all. Where in the US are you from? If you don’t mind my asking… That’s awesome re your baking. I’ve thought about doing that but worry that I wouldn’t enjoy it so much if it were for sale. Besides, I’m busy enough now.
