Summer Song
It’s one of those moments when the world is soft and playful…
Summer sighs a slow breath of warm tranquility causing the birches and cottonwoods to shimmer to the very tips of their fingers. Feathery whispers swirl through the treetops, rolling lazily as the cicada sings her aria with a hypnotically soothing voice.
Sunlight and shadow embrace on an emerald bed of grass as they make love in an ever changing rhythm of flash and fade.
I watch silently from my porch, slowly being lulled into a deep pool of midday slumber, body and mind surrendering to the call of gently approaching dreams.
Softly, I fall away from reality. I think of a girl from a different summer. I remember how her hair floats about her face, washing over the contours, at times hiding her features. Yet her eyes never leave mine and her smile never diminishes.
Sleep pulls me deeper…the girl moves closer…traces my face with a lovers’ familiarity…leans into me…I lean into her…
As I slip into the depths of peaceful rest, I wonder if she still dreams of me…
Take care.
