Rain Rain Go Away

Actually I am glad we are having so much rain. It just seems odd that we are having day after day after day of rain. Yesterday was actually sunny and David was able to mow. Earlier this morning it was sunny and I took Pepper for an hour walk, but right when we got back the sky turned black and it started pouring. We are under a severe thunderstorm alert now.

We went shopping for basketball shoes for the girls yesterday. They both have a practice this week then start games the next week. They will each play 2 games a week, either on Tues/Thurs or Mon/Wed. Don’t know yet if we will be juggling 2 games a night or a game every night of the week.  It’s only for a few weeks, right? (Like, until August!)

My mother-in-law came over yesterday. Sounds simple right? Here is what happened:

Around 11:30: I call her to see if she’s home so I can bring her money by for next week (forgot to pay her Thurs). Willow answers the phone. I hear "mm, uh, mmghf," and then he hangs up. Uh, I guess she’s not home??
Around 12:00: She calls me to ask where we are. She is at our house & no one is there. I tell her we will come by later to bring her money by. She says she wants to talk to David because she’s "confused about what’s going on".
Around 12:10: My phone rings again. It is her. I don’t answer.
Around 12:30: I call her to see if she is home yet. She is at Wal-Mart, but she says we can come by and go swimming later (this is why she had called back earlier, when I didn’t answer). I tell her we will call her later.
Around 2:00: David calls her to tell her that we will come by to go swimming after he mows. Willow answers the phone. I hear David saying "Who is this? I can’t hear you. Willow? Willow, put my mom on the phone." Then, "He hung up on me."
Around 2:03: Our home phone rings. I can’t get to it in time. Then my cell phone starts ringing. I run into the other room to get it, but not before it stops ringing. I see I have 3 missed calls (all from Ann between 12:30 and 2:00). Then our home phone starts ringing again. I answer it and tell her that David tried to call her and tell her we will be over about 4:00. She says ok.
Around 2:30: She calls back (David answers) to say that something is wrong with the pool filter and the water isn’t clean. David’s dad is out of town and she doesn’t know what to do about the pool, so we can’t swim. She is headed out shopping, so David tells her to come by our house and get her money.

She came by and visited with me while David mowed. The first 30 minutes consisted of her repeating Thursday over and over: "David told me he would come get the kids at 3. He didn’t show up. I called him and he didn’t answer. So now I don’t know what I’m supposed to do." [I sometimes think David’s mom is a little special. What she is "supposed" to do is tell David she won’t keep the kids anymore if he does that, or tell David he needs to pay her extra, or anything other than just dither around about it.] When David finished mowing, he came and talked to her. After longer than imaginable, because she has to repeat everything and keep repeating what happened the other day, etc. they finally decided that she will come to our house after lunch and take care of Pepper and just stay until David gets home. Then David went to take a shower and she started talking to me about Willow.

She told me that Willow had failed 4 subjects this year. She had told me earlier that he was going to summer school because he failed the TAKS test, but actually it is because of failing 4 classes. She was saying she didn’t feel sorry for Willow because he never does his homework and that’s why he failed. The way I see it, he is 14 and he should be responsible to keep up with his schoolwork, but his parents should be responsible enough to make him. Bruce won’t or can’t, and the grandparents have this "it’s Bruce’s responsibility" attitude. Agh. It’s fruitless to think about it.

Other than her visit and the related 12 phone calls (which was actually ok, she and David came to an agreement and I don’t ever directly let on how I feel about the Willow situation, I think/write about it more than what actually happens) we had a pretty relaxing day. We went to PetCo then the plan was to get groceries, but we were hungry so we went to eat BBQ first then we were so full we decided groceries could wait til today & we just came home. I finished reading my library book then went to bed.

I woke up today a little horrified at all the housework I need to do since I didn’t do any yesterday.

I checked out two good books from the library last week. One was Whitethorn Woods by Maeve Binchy and the other was The Collectors by David Baldacci. I like both those authors.

Well I need to get the day started. David has a severe weather alert downloaded on his computer and it keeps beeping so I better see what’s up with that too.
