Follow up on shoulder & last basketball games

I went to the doctor yesterday to follow up on my shoulder. He was very happy with how it was healing and how much I could do. He agreed that it was probably tendonitis, and said I should still be careful with doing things over my head, and to keep doing exercises to strengthen the rotator cuff. He explained a little bit about how the rotator cuff works, which was interesting.

Then, since I had never seen him before (he is our family physician but I usually only go to the dr when I am sick, which usually means I am at the after hours clinic so I always see a different doctor), he wanted to fill in some of my medical history for my chart. So we went through my history then my family’s. I mentioned my mom had colon cancer and he asked how old she was when she had it, I said "uh……" and he said "close counts!" so I guessed 55 but I realize now that she was actually 49. Anyway he said I should definitely have a colonoscopy before I turn 45 (he made a little note in the chart which I thought was funny since it’s NINE YEARS away!) and should start doing "stool cards" when I’m 40, whatever those are which I am sure I don’t want to know.

We talked about that so much I forgot to mention my mom’s hypothyroidism and her heart problems.

Then he asked about brothers and sisters, so I mentioned my brother has Crohn’s disease and my sister has psoriasis, as does my mom and her mom before her. He said "Hmmm, that is interesting. Those are both auto-immune disorders, so we want to watch you for any other type of auto-immune disorders, not necessarily either of those but maybe something different." I’ve never had a doctor link those two before. (I always mention them because we think psoriasis is heriditary just based on my grandma, my mom and Emily having it and although noone else in my family has Crohn’s, David’s cousin who has it has several members in her family who also have it.)

Last night was Rebecca’s last basketball game. She played the best she’s ever played, she made 2 baskets which was the first time she had ever scored in a game. In fact, she was the high scorer for her team last night! She got beat 28 to 8 which sounds worse than it was because the other team had one girl who scored 20 points.

It was also Courtney’s last game that she will play in; they had a makeup game get rescheduled for next week but the girls are going to go stay with my parents next week so she will miss it. Unfortunately the games last night were at the same time so I didn’t get to see Courtney’s. David said she didn’t play very well, the whole team didn’t play very well and they got beat 30-15. He was disappointed he didn’t see Rebecca’s game.

Saturday is Rebecca’s team party. Sunday I am going to meet my mom in Paul’s Valley OK to drop off the girls. They will stay until Friday, when they will ride back with Brian and his girls who are flying to Cancun out of DFW. So sometime between now and then I need to get them packed. Rebecca told me she was already packed so it will be interesting to see what she has packed. Dress-up clothes and dolls, I am sure.

That’s interesting about what the Dr said about psoriasis. I have it. I get a little behind one ear and a little into my hair. Luckily, no one can see it. I always thought it was hereditary too because my mom had it. I’m glad your shoulder is feeling better.

RYN: Yes, I have long straight hair and she has short curly hair. It’s both blonde and I guess that’s all people see.
