Feelin’ Groovy

Let’s see, what’s been going on…

Had a birthday. I got a picnic basket, some workout DVDs, & an electric Sudoku game from David and the kids. We went on a picnic Saturday with the new basket. It was fun. My mom sent me a check. I had been wanting to try out Lane Bryant’s new jeans, so I went and bought me a pair. I’m a SIZE FOUR LOL. The stunningly unhelpful sales clerk told me to try either Red or Blue and size 4 or 5. The Red size 5 wouldn’t even go over my hips but the Blue size 4 fit perfectly. They are magic because they fit both my butt/thighs and waist at the same time – incredible! The only quibble I have is that there is a bunch of stitching on the pocket. I’d rather just have plain pockets.

I don’t remember if I wrote about my genius reward system for the girls. For every day they don’t get their folder signed, they get a sticker on a chart. The chart is on the refrigerator. For every 10 stickers, they get $5. For every full week of stickers, they get to go to either Barnes & Noble or Bath Junkie and get a treat. If they both get two full weeks of stickers in a row (same two weeks) they will get to go roller skating. So here we are in the third week of school and Courtney has only gotten her folder signed twice. That’s amazing compared to last year. (Rebecca hasn’t had hers signed at all).

Yesterday was the first day Benjamin cried when I left him at daycare. Other than that he has been doing pretty well. Rebecca went through a time when I just had to hand her to someone and turn around and leave with her screaming after me, so I’m not too worried about Benjamin crying on one day. We are working on potty training him. I think he is the only three year old in his room that isn’t potty trained, oops. I am just really not in a big hurry to do it. He hasn’t shown a whole lot of interest. Maybe I will buy him some big boy pants to see if he’s interested in wearing them.

I’m going to Austin Sunday for a conference. It should be pretty fun. We’re staying at a Hilton downtown so I should have time to shop or wander around. I like Austin but haven’t been there in a long time.

It’s starting to feel like fall weather. I’m sure it will get hot again before it’s really fall, but the past couple of mornings there has been a little chill in the air.

I’m knitting an afghan for my brother’s new baby girl due in October but I am not getting very far on it! I always start knitting afghans then get so sick of it by the time I’m done. It seems easy at first (a big rectangle) but then it just goes on and on and on. I’m making the same pattern I made Benjamin, and I had forgotten that there is an error in the pattern. If I were a perfectionist, I would have ripped out what I had done and figured out how to fix the pattern, but I didn’t. Now I just have to make a correction every so many rows. (The pattern is made by increasing and decreasing stitches, and it should work out so that at the end of the row there is the same number of stitches, but it doesn’t). I think when I made Benjamin’s I figured out how to fix the pattern but I didn’t write it down. I’m making it white since I started it before they knew if the baby was a boy or girl.

My dad’s 70th birthday is this Friday. My mom said didn’t know what made her feel older – a 37 year old child or a 70 year old husband! (She will be 70 next year but I guess she is not thinking about it!)

We are having nachos for lunch today provided by our Voice of the Employee committee. One of those things they do every so often to make us happy, like ice cream sundaes or root beer floats. Works for me!

I’m glad you had a good birthday. I’ve always wanted to learn to crochet or knit but I don’t have the patience.
