Doctor x 3

I’m taking advantage of my vacation to get everybody doctored up. Yesterday Rebecca had a dentist appointment (to put sealant on her molars). Today all 3 kids had their annual checkup. Everything is good everywhere. Courtney and Rebecca each got 2 shots and Ben got one. As soon as the doctor came in, Courtney held up her pinkies and asked "Do you remember which one you sewed up?" He looked closely and said "No, and I can’t really tell either. I did a good job if I do say so myself." LOL.

September, 2005: Courtney slammed her finger in her classroom door at school. It broke the tip of the bone off, tore off the nail, and sliced the finger about halfway through. David took her to the regular doctor instead of the ER, and even the doctor didn’t realize how bad it was until he started sewing. He sewed all the layers back, and then sewed the nailbed carefully hoping the nail would grow back. When he finished, he seemed nervous, like he had gotten more than he bargained for. Now you can’t even tell anything happened to it.

My mom sent an email yesterday telling us that our aunt was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. (Which Emily had heard from another aunt when she had gone to see Tyler). My mom said that she had heard from a lady at church that my aunt & uncle had been going to an Alzheimer’s support group, so she finally asked my uncle about it. Apparently she is taking some medication and the doctor is pleased with her progress, I don’t know any details. I asked Brian about her when I saw him Saturday, because he lives next door to them. (This uncle is my dad’s brother that my dad farmed with. They live up the road from my mom & dad, and their son lived in a house next door to them. When he moved to town, my brother bought his house.) Brian looked confused and said, "Well, I see her driving by all the time." !! So I guess it hasn’t progressed too far, if she’s still driving. I was surprised at that.

While we were at the doctor’s today, I asked about the HPV vaccine. Here in Texas, the governor had originally made it mandatory for girls to get it starting at a pretty young age, 4th grade maybe. (as one of the required vaccines for school). There was a big outcry, partially because apparently money had changed hands between the pharmaceutical company & politicians (coincidental, I’m sure ) and partially because what parent wants to vaccinate their 4th grade daughter against a sexually transmitted disease?? And I think partially because the governor did it, it wasn’t passed by the legislature. And I think the legislature passed something that nullified what the governor did. Clearly I’m a little fuzzy on the politics of it! Anyway, I asked the doctor about it and he said it was a great vaccine in spite of the bad press, and they do recommend it, but that since Courtney was getting two other shots today he thought it could wait a year or two.

Benjamin is watching Eragon for the 1,000th time. It starts out with a narrator talking about the land of Alagesia or whatever, and every time Benjamin says "There are no alligators, there are dragons!" Pretty funny.

I’m sure she drives around town all the time – but she may have a hard time getting where she wants to!
