Another Weekend Zoomed By
I haven’t been writing very often lately. It’s one of those, "if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything" kind of things. Work sucks, let’s just say that.
Anyway, it was a good weekend. We had signed up for the Ft. Worth Zoo Fun Run which was Saturday. For Courtney’s PE class, they have a "miler card" where they keep track of how many miles they run. Some days are set aside as "miler" days where they run in class, or if they do outside runs they can bring a note from home saying they did the run and they get credit. She’s been telling me about her friend Brandon (who lives at the end of our street) and how he has filled up 2 or 3 miler cards. I see his mom running in the mornings, and I’ve seen her wearing different marathon t-shirts so I figured they must do alot of runs. Courtney got a button for running 10 miles last year and I was hoping she would do 15 miles this year. So we signed up for this run.
Rebecca and I did the 1 mile run and Courtney and my father-in-law did the 5K. (My father-in-law does alot of races, both running and biking, and has done a few triathlons). The run was cool because it went right through the zoo. It was early in the morning and all the animals were out, they seemed more lively than they usually do. We saw a baby orangutan nursing! It was cool to see.
Rebecca started off running, then got tired and then complained the whole rest of the way. She was crying by the time we finished. We had to hurry to the 5K start to see Courtney start her run, and Rebecca whined and complained the whole time. After they started, we got her some juice and food and she perked up.
While we were waiting for Courtney’s run to start, Brandon and his mom came up. His mom had run the 10K which started earlier, and his dad was running the timed 5K which started a little before the 5K fun run. Brandon was looking for someone to run with, so he ran with Courtney and FIL for a little bit. (FIL said he got ahead of them pretty quick). I was proud of Courtney, FIL said she ran 80% of the time. They finished in about 55 minutes. Neither of us had brought a camera, so we took a picture when we got back to David’s parents’ house.
We had to leave at 6:30 in the morning to go pick up FIL, and got into my van and it wouldn’t start! Ugh! So I drove David’s truck, then later in the afternoon FIL came back over to look at my van. I ended up having to buy a new battery, but it was acting strange because all the accessories worked, it just wouldn’t turn over. Then it would jump ok, then we took the battery to Auto Zone and it tested good, then it tested bad. It was weird. In the process of replacing the battery, my speedometer needle went nuts and ended up rotated all the way around, underneath the peg. So he did some researching online & figured out how to fix that. He was a big help.
Today I finally finished all the reading for my exam. I am about 2 weeks behind where I would like to be – ideally I would have had a month to review/synthesize what I read. But I’m still trying to be positive. I took good notes & read everything pretty thoroughly, and I think I have a good idea of what I will just not learn no matter what so I can ignore that and concentrate on learning what I can learn as good as possible and hope the other stuff doesn’t end up on the exam! It’s less than 2 weeks away.
I’m trying to train for a 10k run myself!

Cute picture. The fun run sounds like it was a good time.
