Blizzard, beaches, sandbagging……
That has been the extent of our older son’s spring break. It started actually the week before spring break. They got a blizzard in Fargo on Monday and so school was cancelled until Wednesday. A test of Thursday and another test on Friday and he was on spring break. We left for Puerta Vallarta on Sunday and enjoyed basking in the sun and warm temps. Came back on Thursday evening and it was cold and snowing here on Friday but then cleared up and warmed up close to 50 on Saturday. On Sunday he headed back to Fargo after a very enjoyable, relaxing, sun soaked fun vacation but looking forward to seeing his buddies back in Fargo.
Then Monday is when all the fun started. They were calling for a flood to hit by the weekend. Class on Monday morning then cancelled until Wednesday. They needed alot of volunteers to help out with sandbagging. So off he goes to help in the Fargo dome load sandbags. The next day he is off to help by the rapidly rising river with sandbagging. Worked there for a couple of hours then headed home. The next day waits out in the cold for 2 hours for a bus to pick them up. No bus comes so they go help someone in the neighborhood to put sandbags around their house. Job well done now they sit and wait. In the mean time school is cancelled until Friday. Ok can’t go anywhere because much of the roads are closed and traffic from neighboring city is being evacuated and the highway is full of people leaving that town. So they sit and wait. Decided to sit it out in Fargo and wait to hear about school. School is cancelled for Friday so they decide what they are going to do. Cancel the sandbagging operation and tell people to go home and wait out the worst flood in history. Thankfully it’s cold and the snow is not melting so that doesn’t add to the already overflowing river.
A just called and school is cancelled for another week. He is on his way home. The river crested Saturday and it wasn’t as bad as expect. They decided to have a party on Saturday night for anyone left in Fargo for something to do. Called him today at noon and he was just getting up. Now I am hoping they have a road open for him to get home. He has to cross the Red River in order to get into Minnesota. Hopefully he can get by without all the flood waters swallowing up the road. So needless to say this spring break has ended up being about 4 weeks long. Not sure how much work they will have to make up once he gets in the swing of things. But he has been studying for a test he was supposed to have on Wed and was prepared for it. We will have to see.
So you see why I call this entry, Blizzards, beaches, sandbagging, flooding, dikes, and more snow!
Happy Spring! I hope your spring is going much better then those poor people in Fargo. God Bless Fargo! We are thinking of you people. I hope there is not much damage, the good lord knows this country can’t afford another catasrophe.
Have a good day!
ME
He’s a good guy to help out. I’ve been seeing it on tv and it looks horrible!
