Nicole Story page 24

“Well, she wanted a memorial for all her friends. Why don’t you decide what you want?”

They put the Lawrence Memorial together completely on their own, only asking that I do the eulogy. The Chancellor and many of her friends spoke. They selected music and pictures. It was very beautiful. There was peace in my heart that night. It was everything she wanted.

Now I had to make that journey home. The house was so empty. I found myself standing in front of her picture sobbing many times. Her friend Shanna told me she would come by, sit on the porch and look in at her picture and do the same.

Her Wichita friends changed the speakers, added pictures and music and did the Memorial in Wichita. We held it at one of her favorite place in Wichita, the North High Auditorium, another suggestion from her friends. Again there were so many people to help. I felt like a zombie, only able to focus on one task at a time in slow motion. It would take me so long to get the simplest things done.

There always seemed to be one more thing to do for her. It kept me moving forward and gave me strength. It was summer before my mind began to feel like it was working again.
