Nicole Story page 19

In June of 2005, she called to say she had been to ER again with her stomach and wanted to come home. She had arranged time off work. I felt some panic and said, “Nicole, this isn’t something Mom can kiss and make better. You need to go to a doctor.”

“I know Mom. I have an appointment Monday and the ER doctor gave me some Prevacid.

She came home and left feeling much calmer. Later that month she called again with severe pains. I asked what was happening in her life and she explained a problem a friend was having. I reminded her that she couldn’t change someone else. They had to walk their path the same as she walked hers. She needed to detach and just love them as they were.

“I know Mom. I just don’t seem to be able to do it. I worry something will happen to them. Maybe I will just have to stay away from them for awhile.”

“Well, when I am stressed, it always helps to walk in nature. Is there a park nearby?”

“Yes.” She called about 30 minutes later. “Well, it isn’t a park. It’s a golf course, but I’m walking along the edge and I already feel better.”

When I was at her apartment in September, she was off the Prevacid and her meditation book was beside her bed.
