Update on DH’s Grandma

After waiting all day and no word from DH’s parents as to how Grandma’s surgery went we caved in and tried to get in touch with them.  I sent them an email but never got any kind of response.  Finally I told DH just to call them and find out so he did.  Apparently when we called his Mom was just looking up our number to give us a call.

But anyway.  Surgery went well.  I guess it went just as the surgeon had hoped for and expected.  So that was good.  The cancer was contained to  just the ten inches of her intestine/colon like they had expected.  It had not spread to any of the other surrounding organs or anything.  They were able to reconnect it so there is no colostomy bag, neither temporary or long term.  They checked over her liver and her kidneys and all looked good.  She will not have to undergo any chemo or radiation.  And ended up with only a 6 inch cut, which isn’t to bad.  And my MIL doesn’t seem to think that she will be seeing or following up with an oncologist but we don’t know about that.

So overall the prognosis sounds good at this point.  She should be released from the hospital in about a week.  And then she will be returning to live with her son and family for the duration of her recovery period until she is able to return to her condo by herself again.  But good news overall it seems.
