Apparently the president is in town

Or passing through town? I don’t know. On the way to playgroup I saw 5 sheriff cars between 3 exits on the highway and they were all still there driving home. I was getting nervous thinking some crazy person was on the run or something. I’m so out of touch with current events, the only reason I found out was a friend posted about it on Facebook. Oops! Now I’d really like to know where he was headed, though, because I was going to take R to the mall when she woke up, but not if we’re going to get stuck in stopped traffic. There’s nothing worse than stopped traffic and a whiny toddler, ask me how I know this 😛

So here we are, Thanksgiving week! My goodness. I was flipping out to Phil the other night because the holidays came up so fast and once we reach January there are only 3 months to my due date. I expected it to go by so much slower, my pregnancy with Riley draaaagged. It’s totally different when you’re chasing a kid around already! I don’t know if I whined about it here, but I am working Thanksgiving again this year, bah. My child’s 2nd Thanksgiving and the 2nd one she has spent at the hospital. At least they give us dinner and all, but it does make me sad we’re so much further from family than I was growing up. Holidays, in my mind, are large gatherings of crazy people, but R hasn’t really got to have a taste of that. Though as a baby large gatherings are probably scary, so I’m sure she’ll live lol. We’ll go to my parents’ on Friday for leftovers and the tree lighting that night at least.

Oh, that same friend just posted she saw Air Force One so maybe it’s safe to go out now.

I decided to host a Christmas party and can’t decide if it was a good idea or a terrible one! I’m already stressing about projects and decorating and menu and where we’re going to fit everyone, assuming anyone comes. I got the stuff to make cookie dough and eggnog pound cake ahead of time to freeze, that will probably be the plan tomorrow. Ever since the pumpkin bread Riley totally gets into baking. If she sees me using the measuring cups and whatnot she runs to the dining area and whines for a chair to stand on. We’re also going to make my mom a toilet paper tube turkey tomorrow lol. The tail feathers are hand tracings cut out, so I’m sure she’ll love it and its cheesiness.

What am I thinking having another kid, I’m just getting my sanity back!!

My kid has been awesome this week. We’re through the 18 month wonder week, now, and she’s easy peasy as you pleasy. No more meltdowns or human barnacle impressions. She didn’t even scream at a single kid the past few times at playgroup! We just survived a horrible throwing/screaming/I don’t like anything/don’t touch my toy or snack or mom phase that was super fun. She even made me look like an amazing parent at group today – she she stood up on top of the foam tower and I said "please sit on your bum" she did every. single. time. I asked. That’s normally a look at me and laugh request. And the words, oh the words! Yesterday she asked for cheese and an eggy for breakfast, she’s using up/down and off/on correctly. She says hi and bye to eeeeeveryone, going to to mall is a treat lol. If she’s having a fit and I look at her and say "Really?" she says "Really?" back to me in the same exasperated tone, cracks me up. She can ask for her TV show, a few toys, and the rabbit and can name a lot of her favorite snacks when she wants them. Soooooo nice to not have to guess!

I’m burned out on the message boards this week. Sometimes the mom wars get totally ridiculous. One group in particular has a handful of "leaders" who are all cloth diaper/organic only/no refined sugar ever blah blah moms who are very open about believing that’s the ONLY way to parent and most of the daily posts are ridiculous judgements on friends and family members and how they’re ruining their children. I like some other girls in the group, but those most vocal "popular" girls rub me the wrong way constantly. Last night someone posted a vent about being on bed rest and this morning there was a "general post not directed at anyone" about having a preemie and how awful and nerve wracking it is and how anyone on bed rest shouldn’t complain and should be willing to do what they need to to avoid premature delivery. It also cited people who were on bed rest in the past and never complained. OMG give them a medal. Stuff like that just bugs me. Of course the girl who complained last night felt attacked. I’d complain if I was on bed rest, I can’t go a day without leaving the house for a few hours. It doesn’t mean I wouldn’t do it and suck it up for my kid.

Another fabulous quote from the other day was if you can’t afford to provide booze you shouldn’t host a party. Yes, that’s awesome logic. I’ve seen that argued on wedding boards, but if I’m throwing a holiday party with lots of kids around, no I’m not providing alcohol. It has nothing to do with what I can or can’t afford.

Whatevs.

Oh noooooooo the child is calling. That was a fast 3 hours, I sure know how to waste time! Yesterday we were super late getting back from the store and she only napped an hour, I could have killed someone. Luckily DH showed up home 2 hours early and saved me. I was going to post a bunch of her portraits (that we’re supposed to go pick up today) but since she’s calling here are just a couple favs:

And the one decent one we got of all of us lol. Ignore the shadow, these are the unedited ones from the CD
