My World
At the end of the day, all I wanted was a little Mother’s Day escape–a bubble bath and a glass of wine in the tub, leaving Nathan to deal with the kids and bedtime so I could slip away early. While I love bedtime and our new routine is great, I just wanted a "little break"…. just this once.
Nathan took Wesley upstairs for his bath and I laid Jasper down in his crib. I headed towards the bathroom but stopped short. I really should get the kitchen cleaned up first, I thought. Then, I had a little last bit of laundry to fold. I wanted to do them as quickly as possible so they would be done and I could relax the rest of the evening. I heard Wesley and Nathan upstairs and figured all was well until I heard, "But I want MOMMMMYYYYYY….!!!"
Nathan tried to reason with him for quite awhile, but I figured since he knew I was just downstairs he wasn’t going to let up. I left the laundry and walked upstairs, figuring I could just get through the rest of his routine and get him in bed and back to my bath. I was feeling kind of frustrated and almost a little irritated and trying to rush Wesley through his snack before teeth brushing when he stopped out of the blue and gave me a big hug.
Cue the waterworks!
I stopped in my tracks and hugged him back, sniffed the top of his freshly shampooed blonde head and realized this job of Motherhood, although not always easy, was one of the most amazing jobs in the world. And the rewards, while seemingly small like the hug from my three-year-old when all I wanted to do was rush him through his routine so I could get back to something else–they are worth more than gold. I know, it sounds cheesy and cliche and all of that but it’s SO TRUE.
This was what I was meant to do, the moment I was meant to cherish on a day like today. The weather had been fantastic, we spent the afternoon at my grandparent’s house, eating barbeque sandwiches on "Grandma buns" (the best homemade buns in the entire world) potato chips, broccoli salad and strawberry cake dessert, playing yard games and basketball in the driveway with the cousins, and just enjoying the spring day and the fresh air.
And let me tell you, that bath was so much more enjoyable knowing it was me who tucked Wesley into bed, read him stories, and got to kiss and hug him one last time before finally getting downstairs at the end of the day.
My world…..
So sweet! Happy Mother’s Day! Jasper is SUCH a mini-Nathan it’s ridiculous.

AWWW I love that one of the two brothers!!!!! Anyway – I can totally relate to this, as yesterday I really just wanted some peace and quiet and for the house to stay clean for five seconds. And then today Luke escaped from child care – it all ended up fine, but it honestly could have ended MUCH worse than it did, I was totally glad to listen to him tonight!

It sounds like you had an amazing Mother’s Day with your family! I have to say, Celia’s bedtime routine is my favorite part of the day, (even though it means I won’t see her for another 11 hours!) You really do have a beautiful family.

This is so sweet. I’ve had those moments where I’m super annoyed with the kids and trying to hide and then one tells me they love me or “I want to cuddle” and it’s like my heart swells. Duh. This is why I’m a mother- I love these little people! Happy Mother’s Day! RYN: do you mind telling me how much the sleep consultant cost? I checked out the website but it didn’t really explain the sleep Sense method at all. My issue with Vincent is that he will not sleep alone. If we place him in his room, he ends up crawling into bed with Hayden and annoying her and disrupting her. He has to be touching someone when he sleeps and I’m worried that he’s going to keep bothering Hayden because I don’t know when he crawls into HER bed, you know? But Jarrod returns from his deployment soon and we need to have our marital bed empty of any children if you know what I mean LOL

ryn;; I’m not sure, actually! It might still post the picture and then just not display the link-back? I’ve never tested it out.

Six months ago, I wouldn’t have understood this entry at all. But now I totally get it! Being a mother is A LOT of work… but the rewards are freaking amazing! 🙂 Love this entry! (And your photos of the two boys playing together are making me want another child. Ack! )
