things to do at fifty below…

Most of you know that I live in Alaska. For real, no foolin. It gets cold. Cuz, yanno, it’s Alaska. There are snaps every winter of -20, -20, -40, -50, degrees (F) .. it’s, well, cold. THIS winter, it’s been alternating between -45 for a week and then 20 or 30 degrees for a week, back and forth, really irritating… makes the roads slicker than you can imagine, because the warm weather melts some of the snow over the roads and then it gets cold again and freezes in layered sheets, on the road. Which you then have to drive on. Because, in Alaska, we don’t close up shop for temperatures or snow… if we did, everything would be closed from November to March.

SO, when it gets this cold, people plug their cars in (no, they aren’t electric cars.) and hunker down indoors, unless they HAVE to go somewhere.

SO! Things to do at fifty below:

Read the same children’s books over and over and over and over and over and over…
DO NOT TAKE NAPS.
Plays the drums really loudly, with a really repetitive loop track in the background, forEVER.
Unfold all of the laundry in your dresser and throw it on the ground.
Stuff trash and snack wrappers into nooks and crannies in your play room.
Watch every episode of iCarly EVER MADE.
Feed the fish every two hours.
Eat a million snacks.
Complain about your homework, making it take two hours rather than a half hour.
Pour the contents of a water bottle onto the carpet and play in the soggy carpeting.
Fold laundry. Over and over.
Bake cookie bars.
Run around in your underwear for three days.
Vacuum.
Make tea.
Have incredibly long, incredibly ridiculous conversations on facebook about hot Disney characters.
Bitch and moan.
Turn the heat up in vain.
Juggle cats.

Okay, not the last one.

OR, there’s always McDonald’s, if you have any money, which, we don’t. We need out of the house SO BAD. CURSE YOU, THREE DAY WEEKEND!

ryn: I think you’re right about the Young Chef’s Academy. One of Reagan’s teachers has girls about the same age as the twins. His teacher and her girls were at that party and in that episode. I didn’t see the episode. I actually have not seen the show ever but I was at the nail salon and the news was on. Something like an Access Hollywood snippet came on during the news and I saw his teacherthere. You have a good memory!

It’s hard to imagine how cold that is!

I’m pretty sure I would die at -50. They close schools here if it gets below 20. RYN: Oh yes, I know. I don’t ever talk to her and she only talks to me when she needs something. I am not going to tell Phil I think he’s better off w/out her until I’m positive they are really forever separating. And I’m sure a day will come when I “forget” to answer her texts.

Haha this is a great list for the rest of us! And we had our annual “blizzard” in Seattle this week.
