Things To Do…

 I need to:

  1. Go to the Child Care Assistance office and get an application, then fill it out and turn it in with all of the necessary documents. I have been stashing Ross’s paystubs for this reason. (He’s really really good at losing them.)
  2. Go to the Public Assistance Office and apply for food stamps. I’m praying that we make the cut off, but Ross keeps getting over time on his paychecks, so we might not. That would be really bad.
  3. Talk to my bank’s loan officer about the possibility of taking out a personal loan in the amount of $15k. I’m sure they will tell me that I need a co-signor. In that event, I need to call Ross’s dad and ask him if he’s willing to be that person. I’ve been too scared to do this, so far.
  4. Go to Room to Grow child care and look around/talk to people about their Toddler program for Milo in the fall. Also want to visit Dream Big Learning Center. May need to pick up applications for one or both centers, if their wait lists are short enough for Milo to start in August.
  5. Look into Tae Kwon Do and after school programs for Kasin… he could possibly go to the Boys and Girls Clubs after school, but I’m slightly wary of it. It’s right down town and it seems kinda.. creepy and seedy to me, just the one we have here. It seems like it’s for such big kids, it makes me nervous! One of the TKD places here in town has an after school program, but I have no idea how much it costs, although I know that monthly class rates are about $100/month. I’m betting its way more than that, since they transport and have them from like 3pm-6pm.
  6. SERIOUSLY stick to calorie counting and lose about 60lbs. That feels so impossible. 60 is a LOT. Ugh.

So, a friend of mine, well, of TBird’s, really…, is going to come over and babysit for me on Friday from 10-1 so I can run errands.. this is my list. I’m going to do CCA, then Food Stamps, and then go to the bank, and then if I have time left, I will go to the daycare centers I’m interested in. I placed calls to both of them today and left messages asking about rates and wait lists and when a good time would be to come look around. I also spoke with one Martial Arts place in town ($100/month, ugh.) and left a message with another one.. the other place advertised an introductory special on their website, 2 months for $80. That’s a pretty good deal. OKAY UGH AAHHH Maybe my parents will pay for it.

I’ve been trying to write this all day. no one reads it anyways.

Found you on Recent Entries. I’m in Alaska, too. ~ Regarding #5, As a Mom, if it feels creepy and seedy (your words) and you’re not sure you want to entrust them with your child, follow your gut feeling and just say no. Need some inspiration on that? Take a look at Gavin de Becker’s Protecting the Gift; it’s available at the Loussac Library (ANC), Noel Wien and North PoleLibraries (FAI), and Mendenhall Valley Library (JNU). And if someone else tries to override you? Hey, you’re the Mom! Good luck with that.

It would take me forever to do that list. Important business-type errands drain me like nobody’s business. Good Luck!

thats a busy list! I wonder if any of the TKD places work on an income based sliding scale? Have you asked? Do you have park district community centers in Alaska? They offer after school programs here, I think, though I have no idea on cost.
