The drunk man in Milo’s room..

So, this morning, Sunday, the fall back day of the season, Milo woke up at 5:30 (so, if it weren’t fall back, it would have been 6:30, which is his usual wake up time..) and Julie happened to be up making tea, so she popped into his room to grab him. When she walked in, she noticed a large, motionless figure in the recliner next to Milo’s bed. There’s a big plush chair which rocks, in front of Milo’s crib, just in front of the windows. She came upstairs and said "HEY, guys? Did ya’ll let someone in last night? Did you have somebody over?" to which we respond, "no, why?" and she goes "There’s someone… asleep in the chair in Milo’s room…" and I said "Like, an adult? There’s a full grown person asleep in his room?" "Yep." WHAT?! "Uhh, well, there shouldn’t be." I answer. So Ross jumps out of bed and jogs down the steps, and sure enough there is a large black figure curled up in the recliner, snoring.

He came back upstairs and told me "I think it might be Romeo…" (our neighbor, who lives in the other half of the duplex.) to which I say, "Well, did you try to wake him up?" and Ross goes back downstairs and taps his shoulder, asking loudly if he’s okay. "Hey, man! Are you alright?" No response. Ross blew up a balloon and popped it with a thumb tack next to the guy’s head. No response. he was snoring a bit, so we were sure he was alive.
"I don’t think that’s Romeo." Ross says.
"I’m calling the police." I say.

And so, I call the non-emergency number to the police department. "Dispatch." says the lady. I tell her, "There’s some strange man asleep in my baby’s room, and I don’t know who he is." she takes our address and sends police over. She asks me if he has any weapons on him or in the room, and what he looked like. I tell her it’s dark in that room and I’m not especially comfortable going in there to check him out in detail, but that he’s a large-ish guy, chunky side of average build, black hooded sweatshirt, not sure about his race, probably early to mid 20s. Five minutes later an officer shows up and lets himself in. I show him into Milo’s room and he asks me if we want the man arrested. I shake my head and shrug, "Nah, if he could just.. you know, go… that would be great. I wouldn’t have even called except we couldn’t get him to wake up." So he walks up to the drunk guy. "FAIRBANKS POLICE!" he yells. and yells it again. "Huh?" says the guy, finally waking up after hearing the word "police" shouted a few times. "Do you know where you are, man?" asks the officer. "No.. what town are we in?" asks the drunk. "You’re in Fairbanks, dude. What’s your name?" "Uhh, Logan." the officer radios dispatch, "first name LOGAN, L O G A N." then he asks the man for his address, which is in Anchorage. the following conversation ensues:

"Do you know where you are?"
"Huh? No?"
"You’re in some people’s house. It’s like, 5:30 in the morning and you’re passed out in the same room where their baby sleeps. You’re kind of a big guy, Logan, so that was a little scary for them."
"Oh… Wow, I’m sorry…"
"They’re real nice people, though, dude, they’re not pressing charges or anything, you just sorta scared ’em, is there somewhere safe that I can take you? Do you have a friend nearby?"
"Wait, where are we?"
"In Fairbanks. 9th Avenue. What’s your home address, Logan?"
"I could go to my mom’s."
"Where’s your mom’s house at? C’mon, lets go this way *steering him towards the door* Hey, dude, where’s your shoes?"
"I dunno."
"How’d you get in here?"
"I dunno… I’m really sorry, I apologize, to the family…."

And then they left. Logan never found his shoes.

What a way to start the day.

Holy ****balls!! Lucky he was just a drunk and not some crazy person!! How scary!!!

HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody woke up when he let himself in?? Must have been a very quiet drunk, lol. When I’m wasted at the end of a night I am sure I am anything but quiet lol. Super scary, but glad it turned out alright and that he was just a harmless drunk.

Holy crap! I would have freaked out if I found some strange man in my daughter’s room! She’s such a light sleeper I’m also pretty sure she would notice someone coming in.
