Kickin It

The semester is almost over! ONE MORE WEEEEEEK

I have a mini-final in Geoscience about glaciers. Should be fairly easy. I’m making up my last lab on Friday, which should also be easy. This class has been borrrrrrrrrrrrrring, so Im not testing especially well, but I’ve done well on the labs. So that’ll be fine, it’ll average out to a B or a C or something, which is fine with me. I’m definitely not one of those crazy GPA-watching people.

Although, I wonder what my grade is in SpEd? I guess that’s one class Im SLIGHTLY worried about, because I’ve had terrible quizzes in there… I always forget my book. The final is a paper, so I’m not too worried about that… I need to finish typing up my fieldwork journals and turn them in. I got the first 4 done and I have like 4 or 5 more to do. The problem is that I didn’t type them up right after each experience, so I have forgotten a lot of the details. lol. Oops. Oh well.

I’m really liking my little side swept bangs right now. They’ve been making me happy today. lol.. no more Donald Trump comb over!

I met up with Heather for lunch at a little greasy spoon joint that’s near her work. All the waitresses are Southern and call you "Sweetie" or "Honey" and they’re all very nice.

Im SO happy to be done breastfeeding. My sex life has REALLY picked up now that Ross has unlimited boob access. He’s very pleased with it. I think he’ll be pretty bummed when the next baby comes along and shuts down his entertainment again for a whole year.. or more.. hahaha.

Milo is moved up to Toddlers at daycare, now. It’s the same room I’m closing in. He’s kind of a pill when I’m in there, he wants to hang all over me and he cries if I won’t hold him when he wants me to, etc. I need to find some art projects for the toddlers to do, it’s windy and dusting (tiny snow) today, so we probably won’t play outside. It had been in the 50s all of last week, which is what we Alaskans call perfect weather, so we’d been outside in shorts and tshirts all week, and the kids were really loving it. Some of the toddlers can’t hack it for much more than an hour, they get bored.. plus the toddler side of the playground is really small, so that’s not especially fun. Anyhow, we would stay outside from like 330-5 and then we usually go in and do an art project or something. We’ve just been colouring a lot, since there’s not really any art materials in the toddler room. I need to go round up some more supplies to bring in with me. Kasin has a ton of stuff that he doesn’t use anymore, like these sweet scented glitter paint dot pens.. and some feathers and lots of ribbons and stuff like that.

I also really want to bring in some food colouring and yogurt to "finger paint" with, or maybe cool whip. And I want to bring in shaving cream so that we can "clean" the tables. I’d also really like to have a sensory bucket for rice and/or beans and/or sand, etc, but idk how likely that is to happen. I think the kids would really like it, but they’d probably try to eat it. lol It would also make a bit of a mess, but since we mop and vacuum EVERY night, it shouldn’t really matter. I feel like the toddler room doesn’t have a lot of fun activities or toys for them, and I might bring in Milo’s cool Little People Raceway and some of the cars for it, because quite a few of the boys in that room love cars and Milo doesn’t play with it hardly at all. They also don’t have any dress up stuff and they don’t do circle time at all. I think this summer I’m going to start doing games and stories and flash cards at the table with them before lunch.

There’s a lot of changes I want to see happen, and I’m not sure if it’s really my place to try to make them happen, but I’m trying to do the best for the kids in my room, so it seems like an acceptable attempt, right? I’ve been trying to do colouring or gluing every night once we come in from outside, and the kids have really liked it. I want to get some chalk for them, too! Summer is such a long stretch of no-holidays, I need to think of some cool ideas for the bulletin boards.. I also want to make a Parent Information bulletin board in the room, and post upcoming birthdays and transitions and daily schedules and lesson plans and stuff like that, "take one" tips for potty training or biting and things of that nature.. there would probably be a hand out of the week, like "Picky Eaters" or "Consistent Discipline" or "Is My Child Ready to Potty Train?" type stuff.

I cant wait for this semester to be over so that I can throw myself into this for the summer. I really want another walk leash, too.. we had one but it broke too many times and finally got thrown away, it’s like a long rope with different coloured handles and the kids all have to hang onto a handle when we go anywhere, outside or in the halls. We could do bug hunts and stuff like that.. although, we also have  a wagon we can pile eight toddlers into. It’s HUGE! So we can use that, as well. I want to bring in some plants and have the kids help me garden, as well 🙂

IM SO EXCITED FOR SUMMMMMER

I want side swept bangs. And. I think you could do so many cool things like you mentioned to improve the play for the little kiddos. Make it happen! Ashley

Your hair looks super cute, I especially love the color! I think those are all good ideas for the classroom, why not just bring up a few ideas to the other teachers and see what they say?

If you tie little knots in a rope and create rounded areas, it works pretty well for a walking leash. I made one myself last summer and wound colored yarn around each “handle” to make it soft to hold and also so I could specifically ask the child to hold the red handle or whatnot. This was great for our Preschool field trips! Sounds like those kids are lucky to have you.
