Giant Christmas Bug.

So, when Ross convinced me that we should get a real tree for Xmas this year, I was apprehensive. I said, "Won’t it make a huge mess?" and "Won’t it have bugs in it?" and "Won’t it die before Christmas day?!" and "Isn’t it a pain to water it with all the gifts underneath?!" ….

He said "Naaaah! It’ll be FINE!"

…he was wrong.

While the tree is still alive ad well, ad it has only been a minor inconvenience to water it, it DID and DOES continue to make a HUGE mess, and THERE WAS A GIANT BUG IN IT!!!

Ross has been off work all of last week and all of this week, so he’s been at home just hanging out by himself, cleaning and doing laundry and staking naps and watching Star Trek. At some point during the week, while me and the kids were gone, a giant bug flew out of the tree. When I got home that day, Ross was standing near the tree and peering into the branches. I thought one of the cats was climbing in it, but he told me that a large MOTH had flown out of it earlier that day and that he thought it may have gone back into the tree.

He was wrong.

It was loose in the house for a long time without anyone noticing. And THEN, TODAY, as Kasin and I were making cake batter cookies for Santa, Ross and Milo had gone to the store for a few last minute items, THE GIANT BUG CAME ZOOMING ACROSS THE KITCHEN and it flying sounded like a horrible old fashioned cell phone vibrating across a marble counter top.

and then it landed on the light fixture in the kitchen ceiling. So, I snagged an old pasta jar out of the cupboard and a plastic tupperware lid and snuck up on it. I was horrified. I had to stand on a chair. ROSS WASNT HERE!

So, I got the jar around the bug and held it flat against the light fixture.. of course the timer for the cookies went off right then, and the stupid bug refused to go down into the jar and just stood there, upside down, on the light. I had Kasin go turn off the oven and open the oven door so they wouldn’t burn while I was messing with the dumb nasty bug…

Mind you, Kasin was circling me and chirping and going "EWW!!" and shuddering and whining and carrying on about how gross it was and how we couldnt let it attack…

Eventually I coaxed the bug into the jar by whacking the side of the light fixture and shaking it up.. then I quickly put the tuperware lid over the opening of the jar and took the cookies out of the oven.

So the bug is ow in an empty spaghetti sauce jar, sitting on my kitchen table, with a huge bottle of sprinkles keeping the tupperware lid weighted down, in case the bug suddenly gains herculean strength and takes the lid off from the inside of the jar, right? lol

That was exciting.

Xmas is almost here!! ðŸ˜€ I hope everyone has an awesome holiday! My brother is coming over tonight and we’re going to make something homey and classic for dinner, probably spaghetti pizza bake with salad, and then we’ll all get to open one gift after dinner. Kasin is super excited and Ross is making me nutty because he’s so excited, he keeps telling me how much he wants me to open my gifts, which I honestly wasn’t curious about until he started talking about them! AH! now I want to see what I got!! ðŸ™‚ I’m also really excited for him to open all of his presents, because we really went all out for him this year and I know he’s going to love everything he’s getting 🙂 YAY!! Christmas spirit!!

and we’ve been telling Milo that Santa is coming and bringing him presents when he’s sleeping and Milo just yells "OH MAAAAN!!!" and grins at us. Pretty adorable. He’s so silly! I cant wait to watch him get into his gifts tomorrow! ðŸ™‚

Im also making a Paula Deen French Toast Casserole tonight, it soaks overnight in the fridge and then you bake it for 40 mins in the morning. I’m a little nervous but I hope it turns out, it looks amazing. I found the recipe on Pinterest, lol. That’s where I got the cake batter cookie recipe, too, and a few other things we’ve made this year- salt dough ornaments and such.

ALRIGHT, that’s enough updatig for me 😉 Enjoy your holidays, all!

I giggled at the bug story. I would’ve absolutely hated the whole thing. I hope your Christmas morning (including the french toast bake!) was lovely. Ashley
