Aw, man!

Thanks for the supportive notes in my last entry. There is a LOT, LOT more that he does that drives me insane, and I just didn’t touch on all of it.. the kid is a REAL monster. I swear. It’s amazing he’s still alive. He’s just a hooligan. Im sure he’ll get better as he gets older, but sometimes I want to just RIP OUT MY HAIR. I switched out of  the toddler classroom at work, so I’m not with him all day anymore. I couldn’t handle it. He just hangs on me and cries, and he is a total hellion and wears me down SO FAST. It’s obscene. I can’t stand it. He seems to behave much better for the other teachers in there, so I swapped out. Keely is back there now most of the time, and I’m in preschool or school age. Which is funny, because I switched OUT of school age for a REASON… oh well. It’s been fine.

There have been low numbers so far since school got out a week or so ago. idk if more kids will enroll or if it will just be a really chill summer, but several of the "problem children" are leaving, most of them for good, and some for EXTENDED vacations. My least favorite child, Mikey, is going to be on vacation for like 6 weeks, and I’m so excited I could vomit rainbows and glitter. Another huge problem child got kicked out recently, because his dad owed so many backed payments. He doesn’t seem to be coming back. One of the incredibly sassy older girls and her younger brother (who is really sweet, actually) was supposed to be leaving for the summer (they have at least one older sister who could/should watch them over the summer) but now we aren’t sure if they really are going to leave. Another set of the older kids, ages 8 and 10 and 12, are leaving at the end of the month. FINALLY. The two oldest are just absurdly too big to be in daycare, and it’s ridiculous that they were ever there at all. They live like 5 blocks from the school, it’s a very good, safe neighborhood, and they would come to daycare for like, 2 hours every afternoon and then walk home. So silly. Now that it’s summer, their mom has them go for a walk or bike ride SEVERAL MILES (a lot.) every morning after breakfast and then they come to daycare afterwards for lunch and then go home at 5:30. They can be unattended long enough to walk from their house, along the bike path on the side of the road for MILES AND MILES, but not stay at home alone for the afternoon? I guess maybe she wants them to be playing outside and doing activities instead of just sitting at home watching TV, but I’m pretty sure she and her husband are both retired or disabled, so it seems a little silly.

ANYWAYS. Should be a chill summer.

Kasin has taken on several household chores. He’s 7, and I realize that he’s babied quite a bit in some ways- I cut his meat, I make all his meals, I usually pour all his drinks, stupid things like that which just became habits and it didnt occur to me to have him do them himself. He’ll ask me for juice and I just go on auto-pilot and get it for him. Ross pointed it out, and I thought back to how he’s been pouring his own juice and milk at preschool/school since he was 3 and 4, so what the heck? lol. So he’s taking on more responsibilities like that. Making his own sandwiches and lunches, taking the trash out, putting away the clean dishes (I dont trust him to wash them, yet.) after dinner, sweeping the floor, putting away his own laundry, and mopping the kitchen. His chore list also says "help with other cleaning as needed" and "clean up toys before bed."  He helps vaccuum and clean the bathroom sometimes. It’s helping me out a LOT, because now I don’t have to worry about finding time to unload the dish racks in order to wash more dishes, etc. Milo barely lets me get ANY house work done, he disapproves of it greatly. Whenever I cook or wash dishes he clings to my legs and tries to push me away from the counters and screams and cries. It’s outrageous. Generally I just ignore him, or Ross takes him outside or something, but it’s still a problem.

I got my first "big" paycheck on Friday, and it was really only a mini-big paycheck.. lol. I make 10.50/hr, now! I didn’t even know that! I got a raise for completing my CPR/First Aid training, my Food Work Certification, and like 6 hours of self-study training packets. 25 cents, but hey! I’ll take it. So, during the semester, I was only working 2-3 hours 3-4 days a week, usually. Now I’ve picked up FT hours,  I’m working 10-6 M-F for the summer. This last paycheck was from a week of PT and one week of FT, and it was almost $500! YAY! I usually made like 250-350 when I was PT. Phew, money. We are WAY behind on rent. I need to help catch us up, even though it’s not ME that’s late, it’s Ross. But we’re still two months behind, and heading into June. :S

SOMEDAYYYY I’ll be DOOONNNNE with schoooooooooooool!

SPEAKING OF!! DID I TELL YOU GUYS I GOT A C IN MATH!? I GOT A C IN MATH!! A C!!! A C!!!!!!!! FINALLY, I GOT A C! I PASSED IT! It was like, the 8th time I took the exact same class, so this is a HUGE deal for me. Honestly, I don’t think I earned the grade that she gave me, but I’ve been in her office busting my ass all semester and she knows I tried my hardest and she knows what I had on the line, I had many mental break downs with my math professor where I professed exactly how screwed I would be if I didn’t pass this class this time around. It was my absolute last chance. I also got a C in Geo-science, a B in SpEd, and an A in Teaching with Technology. Win.

Next semester, I’m probably taking an English (Women’s Lit) class, and definitely taking Math 205 (how to teach math to kids) and Yoga 100. I only have 3 classes left for my degree, Math 205 and 206, and Ed 330, which is Assessments of Learning. However, since they are linear, and Ed330 is only offered in the Spring Semester, I have to take some fluff classes, as well. My plan is to take Math 161 this summer, which is mostly a review of Math 105 (the one I just passed with a C! WOO!!!) via distance ed, I’m already signed up for that and I have the book on loan from a friend. The professor is pretty awesome, and I’m hoping to muscle through the course in less than 3 months. Each chapter has a proctored exam, which is annoying, but oh well. I think that means the final isnt cumulative, which KICKS ASS. I have a HORRIBLE memory. So I’ll do that over the summer, take Math 205, Engl (if I really do need it… my adviser thinks I do, but I dont think I do…) 300, and Yoga for Fall, leaving me available MOST days for work. In the Spring, I’ll take Math 206 and Assessment Ed330, both of them will be with Keely, and then Yoga again to keep my 3/4 time instead of 1/2 time standing. I’m not sure what else to take this fall if I don’t need the English class, but I want to be 3/4 time and not 1/2 time, as it fucks with my loans and grants far too much when you drop to 1/2 time or lower. idk what else I would take, though. If I don’t need the English class, maybe I’ll look into swimming or an art class of some kind, something chill.

Well, Milo just woke up from his nap, so I need to run. Enjoy the day, m’dears.

YOU’RE ALMOST DONE WITH SCHOOL!!! Holy crap, I don’t think I’ve ever known you when you weren’t in school. That’ll be so awesome! Abbey does some things around the house. She vacuums, feeds her rats. I’ve been helping her learn to cook lately. She can make Ramen noodles and grilled cheese sandwiches all on her own! I understand about taking care of them just being second-nature. I’ve been trying

to strike a balance with room-cleaning. She shares a room with Jonas, who makes an ungodly mess all of the time and is impossible to convince to clean up after himself. So its not really fair of her to clean up everything.

All the job stuff sounds so familiar. Except you make more than I do! Lucky girl. 😉 A lot of the Toddler kiddos at my school act completely different around their Mamas. One of the girls in my class has a complete meltdown when her Mom walks in the room and she says the same type of thing happens at home but she’s fine when it’s just us. (her Mom works at my school too) You have my respect. I

always admire those who are on “the front lines” all day with Toddlers and then go home to small children of their own.

RYN: Haha, no, not at all. I’ll hold my breath for practically the first six months. He signed up with the union there, so they can’t just decide to fire him, so hopefully that will help some.

That’s great to give Kasin some responsibilities. He probably likes being helpful and it’s nice for you. And congrats on school. You’re so close! Ashley
