Afternoon of the Interviews

I interviewed with both consulting companies today.

Company two (P) fast-tracked me once they heard I was interviewing with company one (K). I took P’s skills test last night and apparently did very well. They interviewed me before my scheduled interview with K.

I think the hardest part is going to be telling Renee that I’m leaving SH.

Because I’m pretty sure I will be.

P especially has opportunities that SH just doesn’t have. They have clinical trial abstracting, a chance to learn coding, state registry work, error management departments…just things that I wouldn’t be able to experience otherwise. They also have contracts with some very large, cutting-edge facilities. I’m being considered for one of them.

That’s all without the consideration of a better salary (nearly $4 more an hour at their base, with annual performance review increases) for less work, more paid time off, flexible hours (I could finally work the same shift as Sean), and the fact that they provide me with the necessary equipment. And, oh yeah, I WORK FROM HOME FULL-TIME.

Also, if I hate it, it’s not like I can’t leave and find a job elsewhere.

The one honest consideration involves the benefits. The health insurance is crappier and more expensive. The 401k isn’t employer-matched (suspended that benefit due to economic down-turn). But the perks really do outweigh all of that….

It will be a hard conversation to have. But I know it’s what’s best for me.

The interviewer with P asked me hardly any questions. She just really wanted to tell me that they have a ton of opportunities and she already knew of several I’d be a good fit for. I mean…that doesn’t sound like an interview, that sounds like "if you want the job, please take it."

That’s not to discount K.

I just said to Sean, "Who am I kidding…if P offers the job, I’m gonna take it."

There are WAY too many benefits for me to ignore.

…Time to look for a new desk. I’ma have a mega-shit-ton of computer equipment on mine.
