Wandering…..

There was a story on the news tonight that reported the death of an elderly man who walked off into the woods in a state of dementia on Friday, and was found today, the victim of hypothermia.

This brings to mind when my grandmother came to live with us after 86 years of independent living.

A passing motorist noticed my grandmother wandering in the garden in her pyjamas at 6:00 a.m. on a 30 degree fahrenheit morning, and stopped to enquire about her health, as well as notifying the closest homeowners ( us), about an ill clad older lady out on a morning stroll in early spring.

I just want to thank that passing motorist….we had 2 more years of the eccentric character of my 4’10” spit fire grandmother because of his kindness.

( It took us a long time to figure out grandma was a victim of Altzeimers, because she was always such a lovable and cantankerous weirdo…….if your family doesn’t teach you how to live with, and love, a wide group of individuals, with all their quirks and predilictions, then I don’t know if there is much honesty going on. And that’s too bad.)

God bless attentive and compassionate strangers.

Beautiful reflection. **HUGS** I’m sitting here with a big smile, thinking, “blessings to a stranger!” 🙂 RYN: I think most of it has to do with dysfunctional childhoods, but I also think it is a conscious choice. Sexual predators are not easily rehabilitated and we have to draw a line somewhere…and acting like an animal certainly crosses that line, to my mind.

asked anyone else for help after that. Thank goodness not everyone is like that person and some strangers do help. methinks there’s a lot more awareness raising to be done

RYN: I am willing to bet that ‘Spirits’ on Charles is a gay place because of the area. But I could be wrong. I have never gone bar-hopping anywhere near the Eaton Centre, so I am not a good person to ask. I do Karaoke at a place called The Gladstone, but it is a long way from the Eaton Centre. I have not danced in a bar in ages — most are too crowded to dance with satisfaction.

So you’re going to be in Toronto? I am listed in the phone book, give me a call!

Yes, it always amazes me that people pass by questionable situations like that without doing anything.

I’m not sure about karaoke on Saturday nights at the Gladstone. This Saturday we are having a house party in honour of Elmo’s 13th. You are welcome to come.

I checked with The Godmother about the Gladstone. It is just around the corner from her and she goes there more frequently than I do. She believes there is karaoke there Thursday through Saturday. I would think it would take you anywhere from forty minutes to an hour to walk there from the Eaton Centre. You should take the Queen Street Car. It is about a 20 minute walk from my place.
