I really love this festive photo from the news

Some are up in arms at these bra-baring college students in England but this photo captures a wonderful balance between beauty, youth and boldness while remaining within the bounds of good taste.

I admire the way it represents feminine variety in a non-sexual-yet-visually-pleasing way.  They’re college kids on a break from school who each boldly (drunkenly?) took the dare to show their pretty undergarments in a group photo.

Sexuality isn’t exactly oozing from the frame, nor are there any nearby males to perhaps alter the tone of the photographic offering.  I like, also, that none of the women are particularly busty and that keeps attention more on the variety of women pictured and not so much on the bosomy offerings of any individual.

Their bras comprise a wonderful color combo of various sizes with each subject remaining somewhat random in her semi-anonymity.

Maybe this photo came about for having been motivated by alcohol and by men, but it is pleasant and light-hearted in a way that inspires me.

I can’t even see enough particulars about any of the women pictured to assure me that I’d want to bed any one over all the rest and that, too, further assures me that their complete variety basically "makes" the whole photo.

Unfortunately, in the world of working girls one can’t really expect to find spirits as vibrant and upbeat as those in this photo seem to be.  I’ve no doubt known ladies of the evening whose physical appeal somewhat approximates that of various women pictured here, but I never anticipate meeting a working girl as high-spirited as are the subjects in this photo.

I love how the picture makes eyes want to survey and document every little detail about each of the women in the frame while not stopping to dwell for very long on anybody.  These women are a good match to one another and I hope that many of them are close friends in real life.

Although these women aren’t voluptuous, I can’t say enough about their various physiques or about the random collection of bras showing.  (kudos to mothers who advise:  "always wear sexy underwear")

This group metaphorically represents most any group of women.  The appeal in any group of friends like this is the variety they collectively represent.

Can you imagine this bunch of girls if instead of sharing this fun moment each decided to critique and assess the physical attributes of others in the group?

You’d then see nothing but self-conscious looks, reluctant smiles, and a giant vibe of insecurity sweeping over them.

When seeing this group pictured as they are my mind doesn’t race to the idea of cupping any of those breasts, but I envy the chance to be in the company of women who seem so comfortable with themselves as to have shared this photo with one another.

Again, I’m well aware that alcohol may have fueled the whole potentially accidental work of feminine art.

(at least the winter theme is appropriate for the bulk of the U.S. in late January)

I like that picture too.

I like the photo too! Happy girls having a bit of fun! They’re wearing more than the women at the beach who the media wouldn’t batter an eyelid about. Context is interesting.

They are not college students, they’re university students, from one of the most elite universities in the world as it happens. And while I agree with you that this is a fairly inoffensive photo, the suggestion is that things got far more raucous than this. I’m not making a judgement. I’m in favour of young people experimenting in this way, but it’s not as innocent as you make out.

January 25, 2011

I don’t think I have made my point above very well. I think this has shocked some people, only because the young people involved are the academic cream of the crop, probably largely from very privileged backgrounds. I don’t think this would have made the news if they had been ordinary 18-year-old students from some run of the mill college.

British people always seem to get confused when we write “college students”. I don’t know anyone’s mother who said “always wear sexy underwear”

Just a couple of girls being silly.

January 25, 2011

aww, it’s a pretty picture. i’m not going to read the article because it’ll make me mad and i just woke up.

Thank you

hey, that’s an interesting entry today! Yes, i have to echo one of the points made in your comments: they are from oxford and that means – spoilt brats from wealthy families, noone else can afford to be in oxford/cambridge. the “prudish” sponsor is pathetic. like someone said in the commentaries to the article – why sponsor rich and not a poor mid england’s college? …I’ll continue…

btw, thought, I’d mention to you that pensive goblin is the very same person, who posted a link in his diary to your diary some MANY years ago, which brought yours truly to OD…coz i used to read this guy, he’s very good though, he doesn’t do DD anymore, but have personal blog http://apps.dongxi.org/Blog/ and I’m still reading it occasionally 🙂 anyway, to be continued again, I’m afraid

some more about girls…the picture you posted makes an impression of “cleaniness”, I mean – good innocent fun of normal “next door” girls…reading the article is a different picture all together. I’ve seen what drunken brits are capable of, both, boys and girls…maybe with boys it is more “acceptable”. e.i. more expected…girls are discusting when drunk. not the picture gils, mind you,

british girls in general…gee, just realised, i should’ve write an entry in alazar instead! duh! never mind, as I almost finished now anyway. oh, I know what I’ll post in there still – I’ve been through some old entries of my old diaries and found one that I’ve copied specifially to share with you. it was somewhat shock to me to read about my own thoughts about my husband long before divorce.

January 25, 2011

I think the picture is a wonderful example of women fighting back against society’s stupidity when it comes to female sexuality. And they don’t necessarily have to be drunk! Maybe they just decided to be daring and do it for the fun of it! 😉 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

RYN \ Really? I think that picture makes me look like a man. 🙁 I think it’s the jaw line, no idea. Then again, I tend to be harsh on myself anyway.

looks fun o.O

ryn: someone i’ve known online..

Really? Interesting. Is it a diary that is still up and running (the one where you found my note)? I don’t think I know of anyone that I noted that long ago. That’s pretty cool, though.

I like how you have evaluated the picture beyond “oooh look they’re slmost half naked”. I agrree with you, this pic represents youthfulness, vibrance, openness, fun and friendship. It IS inspiring. Now I’ll read the link.

That is a great photo. My instinctive and first response was a little different to yours; from a girl’s point of view perhaps, or just a different person’s point of view. It is tasteful yet mischievous and it is original but the obvious intention of taking the picture was to get a truly unique and original group photo on a skiing trip. Photos from school trips all come out the same. This is cool.

January 30, 2011

A friend of mine (male) plays around with this idea from time to time… he and some others all went skiing in suits one year, James Bond style, just for the photos really! And they came out really well and were a talking point.
